I have a friend who lives in The Villages 3 months of the year and lives overseas the other 9. It probably doesn't make sense for him to get a phone with a contract so can anyone out there recommend a Good Deal on a Pay As You Go Phone? Thanks in advance for your assistance with this request.

Trac Phone would be a good choice for your friend. Their phones run around $10 at Target, Walgreen's, etc., and minutes start at $20 for 60 minutes for 90 days of service. Most phones give you double minutes for the entire time you own it, so that would be $20 for 120 minutes. The number and service stays active as long as minutes are added before they expire.

We have Tracfones and have never had a dropped call here or up north. Pricing is perfect also.

I am in the same situation as your friend. I live overseas with the State Department. For the past few years I have had Virgin Mobile Pay as you Go. They take $20 every 3 months from my checking account automatically. This keeps my account and phone number active and I don't have to think about keeping it up to date. I have had the same phone number doing this for the last 7 or 8 years now. And, when I get home 2 times a year, I have money already on my account ready to use right off the airplane. They have all the most modern phones to choose from also.

Might look at a GSM unlocked phone with dual sim card capability. One of the sim card slots would be for the overseas "home" number (I'm assuming it is like most overseas numbers and is a GSM connection) and the other sim would be for the US phone number. I use Telestial sim card. It comes with a USA number that will stay active as long as the phone is used on that sim card once every two months and it can be recharged on the phone or on line. Also it comes with an overseas connection number that is an 800 number for USA callers to that number. This way one phone and two numbers possible.

$45.00/MO includes unlimited US telephone, Internet, Text, No Contract, Verizon Towers.
For a little extra per month (no contract) there is an International rate.
Walmart on 441/27 have excellent Techs that will help you free. In some cases, you may use your existing phone buying only a SIM Card.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand that. Isn't pay as you go a model where you pay for your minutes as you use them? How can is be $50 a month for unlimited everything? You have unlimited calls, texting and internet for $50 per month and there are no other charges or fees?

When we cancelled our Comcast bundle and went with Direct TV I went toAT&T to see what was available. We purchased and installed an AT&T box that plugs into our hard line base station. This system actually ties your home phone into your cell and you keep your phone numbers as they were. It includes local and long distance calls and adds $20 to my bill. It has worked fine with no problems. ;)

Look for the Tracfones that give you triple minutes when you buy the top-up cards.

I've been using AT&T Go phone for the past two years. The phone was $15 at Walmart and for $100 you get 1000 minutes good for one year. At the end of the year I go to my online account and buy another 1000 minutes.

John_W, can you send and receive texts with this phone? The younger generation in my family communicates primarily through texts.

No, not this one, it's voice only. I just looked at Walmart and they have an AT&T Go Phone for text for $20. The cheapest minutes they show is a $15 per month card.

Janmcn suggested this in Post #2.
Yesterday I bought a phone for $9 at Walmart to be used rarely, just for emergencies.
I paid an additional $20 for 120 minutes of airtime.
So right now, I have a phone good for five months with 150 minutes of airtime for $30, a great deal.
I will throw it away when we return to Canada and do again next Fall.
The friendly guys at Walmart even activated it for me.

Several years ago we bought a phone for $15 at Best Buy and a card for $90 a year. We replace the card every year on our anniversary for $90. Any unused minutes roll over year to year. It's Virgin Mobil and has never dropped a call and is clear as a bell.

Tracfone for less than $7 per month for lite use is hard to beat. Never had a problem with bars or dropped calls. You can even buy a smartphone with 600 minutes and 90 days service for about $30 on Amazon. That's $10 a month for the first 3 months, free smartphone and less than $7 per month after that. Not a top of the line phone but it's free. And all minutes do roll over as long as you keep the service active.
