I spent 2 hours this afternoon at "Michael's" crafts store shopping for new frames for some of our paintings. While the very polite Store Associate was helping me choose my borders, frames, etc. 3 separate times, 3 different women interrupted the Sales Associate without even an "Excuse Me" or "I am sorry" or "pardon me". One said "HEY, where do I get the touch up craft paint"? The other woman walked in, put her purse on the framing counter practically dumping it on one of my paintings, announced her name (will not repeat here) and said "I got a call my framing is ready". The 3rd woman just interrupted saying "when can I get some help with some framing"?.....I turned to the Sales Associate (while she apologized for the interruptions to me)......

I am sorry you had to experience such behavior but ... what I see a lot, are stores are understaffed and customers have no one to ask questions to, except to walk all the way up front and stand in line behind those wanting to check out. If I have to do that, I am just going to walk out the front door. I was in a Macy's a few weeks ago and heard a woman screaming at the top of her lungs, waiting at a counter, is anyone here. I though to myself, how rude, and she was, but when a associate finally make her way over to her after she was done taking care of customers at her register, she told her there were only 2 associates for the entire upper floor that day and the one must have been on break. It always amazes me how business operate like this. I also try NOT to shop on a weekend if at all possible and try to time my visits, if they are of a time consuming nature to either early when a store is opening or later when most have gone home. And in ending, there are A LOT of rude people in this world. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and know you are not one of them.

Most of the Villagers I have met have been courteous, helpful nice folks. On the other hand I have run into some obnoxious ones who appear to feel entitled somehow. Maybe they act that way back where they come from but if so they would have few friends. In The Villages, they may feel they are like paying guests at a resort and act demanding. I have run into that kind of behavior at resorts and on cruise ships more than in cities I have visited.

Funny, I was in Jo-Ann's Fabrics last night looking for a button. I asked an associate where the buttons were and she pointed to the back of the store. "Down there to the right", she said.
So I walk toward the back of the store and can't find them. I come to a place where it looks like they might cut fabics or do some kind of work. There are three associates chatting. I stand there looking at them and they just keep talking. They each looked right at me and just kept on with their conversation. Finally, I spoke up and said, "Excuse me. Where are the buttons." They looked at me with expressions on their faces that told me they had no idea. They looked astounded that a customer asked them a question. Finally, one of them spoke up and said, "I think their about three aisles down on the right."
We went in that general direction and found the buttons.
You encountered rude customers, I encountered rude useless sales people.

The Villages is a city of more Than 100,000 people, mostly good and courteous, some angry, some rude, some larcenous, some alcoholic, some sick, some stupid, just like most towns that size, only more good and courteous in my opinion.

I want to ask if any of you that have replied have never had your conversation with a store associate interrupted by someone when you were in the middle of a conversation with the associate.
Personally , I think that it is rude and I will sometimes say to the interrupter to wait your turn.
It often takes a while to get someone to wait on you and I want their undivided attention.
So WAIT YOUR TURN.
I do not care where you are from.

The OP stated that she was in the store for two hours working with the sales associate, have to ask, were there other sales associates who were available to help the other customers? As A person who uses manners, I may have lost my patience waiting for the sales person to help me if one customer had them tied up for two hours. Just saying!

The OP says she spent two hours in the store, but she is not clear that she spent all of that time with an associate. In fact, if she had, only three interruptions might not have been remarked upon at all.
Why not give her the benefit of the doubt? Her point was valid. Those that barged in were wrong and rude. First come, first served.

On a similar note, one of my pet peeves is when I am at The counter to pay for merchandise and the clerk takes a call and stays on it for any time. I made the effort to come to the store and buy their goods and the person on the phone is often comparison shopping, or worse, it's a personal call. The clerk should politely say "please hold for a moment while I finish waiting on this customer," but they almost never do.

If I'm tying up a sales associate for a long period of time and somebody is just looking for an aisle location or picking up a ready order I ask the associate to help them and come back to me. I can busy myself for a minute or two especially if I am at the two hour mark. In fact, we probably both need a break.

Boy, I don't agree with either one of you. Or with the poster who said he never ran into anyone rude at Amazon.
The last first: did you ever haul a picture into Amazon to have it framed?
Pammy, I agree with you to some extent, but even with no sales associates around, I wouldn't interrupt someone already being waited on to ask a question. Especially in the framing department. Getting your artwork framed is not as simple as picking out knitting needles.
And DougB, the framing section is there for exactly the purpose of choosing framing. They're very sophisticated in their equipment, they only use certain salespeople who have the training in framing, they have a boatload of frames and a thousand mats to choose from, they put different options under a digital device that shows you what it will look like, and IT COSTS A TON OF MONEY!!!! I have frequently taken 2 hours to pick out frames for artwork. I know when I go in there that if someone is working with a customer in the framing department, I might as well go out to lunch and try again later.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.:boxing2:

I can see both sides of this scenario, If I was going to tie up a salesperson for a goodly length of time, I would let other people go ahead of me.
I have been in store where other people have interrupted, without saying excuse me, "Can I ask a question?".
For some people, "it's all about them". Just ask them, and they will tell you. :D
