Orchid societies

Are there any Orchid Societies in the area? My husband said he would move to TV if there was one in the area.

Checked with the rec centers, there are several gardening groups, but none specifically for orchids. He could, of course, ask that one be formed -- he'd have to fill out a survey, the Sun would ask if people were interested for 3 weeks and, if enough said yes, a club would be formed.

It seems the nearest Orchid Society is in Orlando, which is a little over an hour's drive away, so not that far but not quite what I would call "in the area."

Meriboo we are not there yet, but I could see me getting back into orchids. They are my favorite to grow.

I bought 3 orchid plants for $10 at the Marion Flea Market and they stayed in flower for months. I stuck them in the ground in a shady outside as instructed before I left on Monday and will be very curious to see if they survive. If you ever do put an Orchid society together I would love to learn more about these wonderful plants.

Hey guess what! Looks like there is an orchid society close by! Found this with a bit of research....The Mid-Lakes Orchid Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Cultural Arts Center in Leesburg. To join, call Donna at 352-787-9003.

I adore orchids but my thumb isn't green. see?? :bigthumbsup: Changing avatar to iris gimp original drawing....or a big thumb! My indoor plants are cactus, jade and ivy cuttings. If nature can nurture them outdoors, I'm in........but with frosts I'm not sure??

You are going to be surprised at how easy they are to grow. The Minnesota State Flower is the Lady Slipper. An orchid! Trust me we get freezes here. ;D They grow wild in our forests.

On an occaision or 2 driving down 27 I have seen a guy on the side of the road selling orchid plants for $5 and I told Ed someday I was going to buy a few!! I love the beauty of flowers. Thanks for the beautiful picture of the lady slippers! I put a cactus hunk in the ground last year and had an amazing flower....will look for pic.

I love orchids because they are hardy and durable, under all that beauty. Whenever my kitchen & bath designs were photographed professionally I always insisted that they include an orchid plant somewhere in the shot. It was sort of my signature.
