I was talking to some about this and just realized (duh) that it would probably be a good post. We didn't take advantage of this because we didn't know about it and our floor is being replaced as I type.

If you're buying a new home (not the ones where you can chose your options obviously! We missed that boat too!) and it has carpeting and you really want laminate or ceramic, Floormaster's will pull out the carpeting and put in the floor of your choice, giving you credit for the carpet they remove. This has to be done before you move in. I really wish we would have known about it because it would have saved us about $600. They credit by square footage being replaced. Check into it. Even it's a hundred bucks it's worth it.

That is a great tip Chelsea. I wish I had known about that. I plan to tolerate the carpet for a few years and replace it when my husband retires and we can spend more time there.. I might of done it differently had I known about this. You would think the real estate agents would pass on this kind of info.

I know Mom2, I was annoyed too! Especially because I kept telling her that I didn't want carpeting. I'm amazed she didn't mention it. :edit:

WOW, is that a promotional thing or something they have always offered?

Great tip Chelsea - thanks. I'll remember this when I go house hunting. Is this standard or just promotional?

I don't think it's Promotional. We had Floormasters and I think they did a lot of TV. Check who put in your carpeting and ask them directly. Also, if were me, ever the squeaky wheel, if it is a different company, use it as a bargaining chip.

Hi PP,

No it's not a promo thing but honored solely by the floor company. I asked my agent who told me that TV don't recognize the deal. Wonder about appliances? HM! And yes we plan on doing ceramic too in place of carpet except for the Br's prior to moving in.

This sounds like a great idea to me. We want the living area tiled.
