Would like to hear from any of you who have come up with creative ideas to install an after market speedometer to their cart. I have a street legal 2008 Ezgo Rxv and would like to add this accessory. Thanks !!

Check the Dialy Sun. I can't remember the day or section but 1w page is devoted to business adds each week and there is an add in there for install of a speedometer in golf carts. Also most of the Golf Cart Dealers offer this option.

If you have a cig. lighter: Buy an older GPS on the internet for $20 or $25. Acts as a speedometer, compass plus maps. Mount it up high out of sight to someone walking by.

I did what jgvillager did, except I found a heads up display unit that you can see in the windshield, and it has a programmable speed alarm, currently set at 20 mph. This plugs into the cigarette lighter, and can easily be removed when not in use.

Surely if carts are set at the regulation speed no speedometer is required!

save your money...

If you have a smart phone there are very many apps with speedos for no charge.....if you are passing many golf carts you are no doubt going too fast.

see the bit about "Street Legal"...it means it's set and legal to go faster, just not on the cart paths.

I have installed regular bicycle speedometers on both my Ezgo RXV and Streetrod. It's just a matter of taking a "big" paperclip or some other strong wire and reshaping it. Attach it to the inside of the front left wheel using one of the big lug bolts that holds the wheel on. Then position the paperclip so that its end sits up as if it was a bicycle spoke. Attach the magnet from the speedometer kit to this wire. Then with those nylon cinch straps, attach the pickup unit from the speedometer to a piece of the axel/suspension where it will be close enough to sense the magnet when the wheel rotates. The rest is just a matter of finding a suitable location on your dash where you can read the speedometer comfortably but not get too much glare and then running the wire.

Thanks to all of you who responded. Let me clarify: My cart is licensed and insured street legal. It can be operated on any street with speed limit 35mph or below. I installed a 1:13 ratio high speed gear and when checked with gps under ideal conditions, it ran 37 mph. I have also just installed a Jakes disc brake system to the front and am very satisfied with it's performance.
I went with the speedometer ap on my smart phone and it workls perfect ! !! Merry Christmas.
We are going to Sebring Fl month of Feb...will be stopping to see your fabulous Villages on the way down
