We are coming to our new house in Hadley in June for the walkthrough etc. We are closing by mail. We will be pulling a trailer with a few items to just get by; a table and chairs, bed etc. We will be camping so to speak as we arrange then for blinds, other furniture etc.
We had thought that our nice strong grandson was coming with us but his summer job starts and he can't come along so we have some...too heavy for me things to drag in, and Sweetie needs someone to help him lift the other end. (This getting older stuff sucks when it comes to the physical work I have always been proud to do) Helene is a wuss too when it comes to moving.
I read past threads and can't seem to find any information on hiring someone to help for an hour or two. I can carry things like step ladders, lamps etc. It is a bruiser desk and a king mattress and box springs that is beyond me to help my dear husband.
Anyone know of a person who would be hired for something like this?

I hear you Gracie - that's one of the reasons we didn't use PODS or any of the other self moving compaines' But, PODS did tell me they would recommend local movers who do this type of stuff.
Perhaps you can give them a call and ask if they can refer people in the area who can help un-load for you.

I drove a 17 foot U-Haul truck FULL of furniture down and I used Arthur Martin. Numbers are 352-347-3420 or 352-207-4896. They showed up on time, two strong men, and charged me $50 an hour for both of them. I would recommend them. They took about 3 hours to unload and set everything up. Very careful and did a great job. Charged me $150 total. I gave them $200 as they were well worth it.

Call Labor Ready, they are pretty reasonable. I have used them the last 4 moves we made. 3 here in TV. I don't have their phone number readily available. You can search the yellow pages in Ocala. I think there is an office now in Leesburg.

Gracie,
That's funny as that's just about what we will be moving - except for the memories stuff - pictures, etc. My husband has a huge roll-top desk and old wooden chair that goes with it. He refinished the desk himself, so it's his baby. I also want to bring the king headboard that he made (and the bed).
It is heck to get old for the lifting stuff isn't it?

We used Village Mover, (352) 751-2750 to move misc furniture from a local storage facility to our home. Very good experience.

Thank you all for the useful information. I will put it in my "When I move to TV" book. My big old house has sold, and I will be down briefly next week to shop for a house. Hopefully will find one in three days and will be able to put that book to use.

When ordering moving boxes from U-Haul on line I noticed they have a link where you can check for people that will help with moving. I think you put in the zip code. I also noticed that the people I checked out for this area had reviews by people who had used the. They listed contact information and price.

Graciegirl, be sure to plug into the Odell Rec center by Hadley for all the summer get togethers list that must be pre-registered to attend. Its a great area...welcome home.

We used the referral service through U-Haul last November. Two nice strong young men had the 17 footer empty in no time. They were very quick, and very careful.
