View Full Version : Temporary Cessation of Trolley Rides

Beginning May 12 and continuing for the next three weeks, there will be no trolleys giving tours on weekdays for either square. Lake Sumter Landing will have weekend tours on the trolleys during this period.

Just wanted to give potential visitors a head's up on this. If you're going to be here for this period be sure and make a reservation to ride a trolley on the weekend. Something tells me they're going to fill up when only run on weekends.

Was there an article about this is Villages Daily Sun? Any reason given for this stop in weekday service during those three weeks?

I'm sure the paper will run it shortly. I got the info from my neighbor who is a guide for the trolleys. They're going to use the guides to be host/hostesses for showing new homes or something like that.

That looks like valuable information to be out there for prospective home buyers for TV. :welcome:

Thanks for that info. I was planning to come down in 2 weeks but I can wait another couple of weeks since the trolley ride seems to be one of the "must do" things.

Could it be the cost of fuel? When Cathi and I were there in March there were only four of us on the tour.

I think they make enough from the buyers to offset the fuel. According to my neighbor, this has happened before when a new section/village opens up -- they pull staff from other areas to act as greeters, hosts/hostesses, etc.

Thanks Redwitch for the heads up. We were planning to take the tour when we arrive next Wed. Will try to squeeze it in on Sat.

RED? What new area is opening up?

And RedWitch, I want you to meet our other daughter, Gretchen, who is coming with us in June. You have been so great and welcoming and helpful!

I have no idea .. think it may be some part of a village in Hadley or Hemingway. She told me, but I truly wasn't listening all that much. A very sweet, wonderful lady who gives me far more detail that I care to know on anything. lol

And, Grace, I can't wait. So far, I've found your family to be truly wonderful. Can't wait to meet the rest of them!

Thanks for the information, Redwitch. We're coming down the May 25th (Sun). Wonder if they will do the tours on Memorial Day???? Sure hope so, cuz we head back home on Friday. Would really hate to miss that.

I understand from my Villages sales rep that they are doing a special event for the residents and will be using the trolleys to transport them to & from the Premier Neighborhood Showcase.

I took the premier tour too. They don't need more than 4 trolleys for that.
Probably cost cutting. No matter how big you are there's always room for cost cutting. I worked in a billion dollar company in purchasing and that was JOB 1..... CUT COSTS. Go for the high hanging fruit.
Gas is up, tourists are down. It makes sense.
