For going on 1 year a Port A John has been an eye sore for anyone who drove into Tall Trees from Buena Vista. Now there is another Port A John at the edge of a yard just about 1 block from the first one. I guess it is time to rethink the name of Tall Trees to better represent the Village image. I know that when a certain number of workers are working on a property it is required to have a Port A John BUT do they have to be in locations where they stand out. In the first case the Port A John was also next to the road for many many months and only moved back a ways but still part of the landscape. In addition they are filthy with mud over them. Kind of disgusting in such a nice Village.:ohdear:

where would you place them, keeping in mind that they need to be serviced periodically ?

You are right! The workers should use the pool bathrooms!

I feel sorry for the people that live in that first house because obviously the project is not completed and no workers have been in sight in at least 6 months.

Your right, no one should settle for a Port A John being infront of their house for almost a year. Heck, in 3 months The Villages builds a whole village !!
It seems that Community Standards are OK with this degrading of Tall Trees as they have been contacted and are a "do nothing" organization as they had been contacted and "did nothing". It was also brought out that in another section of Tall Trees there was another offensive Port A John. There doesn't appear to be any controls on Port A John's since one can stand on a very visable location for just about a year. It is still there and allegedly it will be a year in February? If this is the way Community Standards work what is their real value add?:ohdear:

Makes me wonder how the service company would be able to deliver, set up, service and remove the unit without damaging property. I always thought that was why they are placed at the outer perimeter of a property.

Where I currently live only new construction is allowed a porta potty for more than 90 days as that is considered the max a large crew would need for a moderate project. Town comes by and slaps a parking type ticket on it. With all the rules in TV it seems some such rule could be adopted, or must all rules be instituted when the village is built?

The mandatory placement of porta-johns is required by the county building department. TV does not have any jurisdiction over them. The rules would have to be changed at the county level. The companies that service them would probably not enter private property to, and in a lot of cases, there is not enough room to get a truck around to the back of the house.

The poor owner has to still pay a monthly fee to keep this in his yard. I would be upset with the contractor which must be that new company called "Land of Promise"!

Understand there is a requirement for a Port a John depending upon how many workers are involved. Don't understand that one is needed for almost a year, don't understand why they must be on road and/or very visable. Don't understand that Community Standards can stop someone from having a bird bath but can't do anything about an eye sore for almost a year. Dont' understand that Contractors can move heavy construction material to back or side of house but can't lift a Port a John. Don't understand why one can blow over and lay on its side for a few days next to and almost on road. Don't understand why doors can stay open and dirty ugly insides can be the welcoming to Tall Trees. Don't understand why they have to be ugly/dirty on outside.Just a lot of "don't understands" and few if any "understands".

This is ruining your happiness. Please don't let it. I wish we could help you with some answers. I can't imagine why ANYTHING is taking a year to build or complete. You have every right to be annoyed and frustrated. It must be a sporadically worked on project.
Can you publish the name of the contractor and perhaps a barrage of emails from us would cause him to see that his project is taking way too long?
I hope that whatever Holiday you are celebrating is pleasant and good and that you will share it with someone who cares about you and that you get a nice and happy surprise or two..
For me it's Christmas. So I wish you a Merry Christmas and an end to your eyesore and health and peace in the New Year.

There may be a a name and phone number on it. If so, call that number and you may get the problem resolved.

Thanks Graciegirl. It definitely does not effect my holidays or peace of mind. It is annoying and thought I should speak up. Life is too great to let something like this take up space in your head. I just believe that when someone is disrespectable to your home you should speak up. This is being totally disrespectable and I am sure the Contractor does not care one bit. It is up to the owner to demand that our community is not abused by some contractor that does not care. I hope all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we have peace.;)

Hopefully, there will be no more Port a Johns in Tall Trees soon and the OP can hang this on the tree:

These port a potties are in the backs of the homes. Like all homes in TV, the fronts are on side streets, but the rear yard in these cases is on the major street.

I drove by there tonight. The sign says Kilcrease Construction in Wildwood. Definitely poor publicity for the company if they can't complete a simple addition in a year.

Kilcrease cpConstruction does a lot of work with Villages contractors. They have a good reputation. They may be contracted for a phase of that house which is a major project. That house has been expanded and changed to an extreme.
