View Full Version : Stellar Svcs/Service Smart Lawn Pest Svc

Does anyone use Service Smart Services?? I used Stellar for over a year and they have merged with Service Smart. I have used stellar and now am having trouble with them not showing up and when they do, they just walk around the house and leave??? Anyone having better luck?? Thanks

I had Stellar for 3+ yrs. & I talked them up & 4 of my neighbors & have them. NOW we WILL dump Stellar or Smart Service & get a service that U pay monthly for rather than A YEAR in ADVANCE & do a good job like the Stellar of 3 yrs. ago when Marty CARED about the customer!

Terrible company, provide terrible scheduled service unless you call them constantly. There gone in a month.

When I called Stellar I could pay monthly or yearly in advance. (10% discount)

I've had them for 2 1/2 years, no problems so far.

We've used Stellar for two years.
We have never been obligated to pay A YEAR IN ADVANCE!
We are still receiving good service from Service Smart.

I have had smart service for almost 2yrs. they are starting to do what stella did, drive by or stop look at lawn a little and leave. I asked worker the other day what's up [ 1st. thing he said to me was where you a stella customer, I said what does that have to do with you guys stopping off and telling me you are not going to do your job, they did service lawn , but I a have a few month's left and that is it. Lawn service companies are plenty here.

We too had contracted with Stellar...paid 1 year upfront and received 2 additional months free (total of 14 months). The first 3 months were great...the next 3 or 4 were just OK...then the weeds got as high as an elephant's eye Oh My! Made the calls...the Stellar crew would arrive, walk around, pull a few, leave the slip of paper and leave 5 minutes later. Nothing for a month or so during the merger. Finally arranged with Service Smart to send a manager out to take a look. When he arrived he surveyed our property and said it was a mess and that our contract had expired, would we like to renew. I mentioned it didn't expire until the end of January. He asked to see the signed contract, which I had along with all the service slips. After review of the file he stated Stellar had not charge us enough and then asked for an additional $1,000 to continue the contract...at this time there remained 2-1/2 months of prepaid service. We politely argued our case and requested they fulfill the contract for services already paid for. The manager went to the truck to call the office. Upon his return, he stated the New Owner had just cancelled our contract effective immediately! He also stated Service Smart was dropping a large number of Stellar customers. Needless to say, we have since gone with another source.

Us too, smart service is doing the same as stella did, stop- look- drive off or tell you you do not need this service now, why did you come?

If you want a couple of guys who care about what your lawn looks like and are proud of their work call Scott at Total Lawn Maintenance (352-267-2921) You pay by the month and they will use walk behind mowers if you desire.
I dumped Service Smart over a year ago and they DID want the big yearly payment (contract) up front at that time. The problems I had with them required lots of phone calls and service was spotty as was my lawn.

I highly recommend T.L.M. and his prices are very reasonable..........

Stellar never "demanded" payment a year in advance.
They would offer an incentive if payments were made in advance, but that that was never a prerequisite.
We are getting good service from Service Smart without any calls to the office.

Service smart is a disaster! Have been calling for the last 3 weeks. Keep getting promises but nobody shows up. The last time they were here they cut up my siding and solar light .I had signed up for all their services. Huge mistake.Read other posts. Run away!!!!!!!!

Why would a company treat some customers one way and others differently ? It makes no sense.

I think that perhaps it's a matter of perspective and comparison to other lawn care companies.
Perhaps people who are newer to TV have higher expectation levels than we do.

In the eight years we've lived in TV, we've had MANY lawn care "experts".
We used to employ different companies for termite control, lawn mowing, trimming shrubs, fertilizing palms, exterior pest control,
weeding, interior pest control, etc.
When there is a problem with your lawn, like a fungus, no-one is accountable.
If you employ a lot of different contractors, they will all blame each other.
When one of the contractors quits without warning, it's disappointing.
When you pay in advance (don't), and a contractor disappears with your money, it can be daunting.
Both have happened to us when we used individual contractors.

Because we are Seasonal Residents, we can't do the work ourselves.
We don't want to deal with a lot of different contractors.
We want an office that has staff, not a cell phone where the mail box is full.
There are only a few companies in The Villages that offer "one stop shopping" where one company does it all - just one point of contact.
And of course no lawn service is perfect at all times.
It isn't feasible for most companies to run at full staff all year long, so most rely on temporary employees.

For now, we've found a full-service company that suits our needs and makes us happy.
We have other friends who use Service Smart without any problems.

A full service company that seems to garner more complaints then any other contractor in any field on this website. Simply an observation, not a judgement. Also I have never seen a response to any complaint here from this company. Seems to me to be more than perspective.

There aren't a lot of full-service companies available, that offer one-stop shopping and an office that is staffed.
Many lawn care companies don't have Pest Control licenses.
We've used other full-service companies that were inferior to Service Smart.
However we didn't complain about them on this website, we just moved on.
I'm not saying Service Smart is without problems.
It's just the best alternative we've found for us, today. Who knows about tomorrow?

We have dropped stellar/service smart and gone with Fertigator. So far, our lawn looks the best it has to date.

I also made the mistake of signing up for their annual + 2 free months lawn care and service.
Our lawn was the worst in the neighborhood. Call and complain and someone would come by for a couple of weeks and then back to doing nothing. At the end of the contract the lawn was so bad they offered me 3 free additional months.
I declined the free service it was so bad.

I contracted with Stellar for the past 3 years. - During year #1 we had reasonably good service. - The following year several issues that required numerous calls to manage the services we contracted and I had pre-paid for a year. - Beginning year #3, we needed to make regular calls to get the services contracted. Then Stellar was announced that Service Smart would be taking over their business and my contract.
- Since then, we have had poor service at best. I contracted for weekly mowing to be done after noon. However when they show up it has been in the AM or NOT AT ALL.
- We had a supervisor come to our home and promise that our service would be as contracted. - They mailed a written confirmation confirming his gurantee, then faied to deliver as promised. ** As of today, it has been nearly 3 weeks. **

They are terrible
I signed up in Oct 2014 and paid a year in advance
I just returned there is crab grass everywhere the donuts have weeds all through them for which I paid an additional 200 dollars to keep clean
Sean the manager won't call me back

After 2 years with Stellar and their new company we were very happy to drop them last week. What started out as a good thing turned into a nightmare.

Terrible company, they provide terrible scheduled service. I will drop them like a hot potato when my year is up. DO NOT pay any company in advance as I did, you are their hostage. They started out good, too big now to provide a good product.

At our last driveway party we found 9 neighbors that dropped them... They do not deserve to be in business...

We were also Stellar / Smart Service customer and we did not have any issues with Stellar but after Smart Service purchased Stellar service when all the way down hill fast.
They would not return any calls !! Smart Service should not be able to continue in business with all the miss leading statments about a seamless transition.
I am surprised there has not been a civil glass action against Smart Service.

Do not walk away from Smart Service, RUN FAST AS YOU CAN !
