I'm looking for a good, reasonably priced vet who doesn't try to upsell you for unnecessary items/procedures. In other words, not Buffalo Ridge.
I see recs for Villages vet over off of 441, so I may try them. I just want to make sure it's not going to be an absolute shock when I get the bill.
Buffalo Ridge charged over 3 times what my vet in Georgia did for simple things like expressing anal glands ($33 vs. 10). They then sold me $60 worth of shampoo and conditioner that did not work. They insisted that I had to buy theirs, as the medicated shampoo at Paws for a Moment wouldn't work. My dog is worse than she was before we spent $300 and I'm absolutely not going back there.

I really like Dr. Valdez at Park Heights Veterinary in Fruitland Park 352-326-9116 (right next to Nearlee New Furniture). He also owns The Villages Veterinary on 441 but only practices at Park Heights. I've found him and his staff to be very caring and his prices seem reasonable to me.

Redwitch recommended him to me after I wasn't happy with Mulberry after they tried to get us to come back each day to check and replace a bandage for a scrape on my dogs leg at $30 a day (I had been changing the bandage each day myself before I went there on day 3 after the injury and they admitted I had done a great job). I was shocked to hear they wanted to see it daily after they charged me a fortune to 'treat' it initially. When I balked at paying they were anything but pleasant. Enough for me to switch.

Dr. Fox at Village Vet on 27/441. She has been our vet for 8 years.

I agree. We have been taking our girls to Dr. Fox for 4 years. When we moved here, we brought 12 years of medical records for BOTH girls. They scanned them into their computer and never flinched. Now they have all they need to know about them for their entire 16 years.

A real help would be for everyone to post what their vet charges for an office visit, nail trim, various shots -- all normal things and nothing extraordinary. That would help everyone get a feel for how a vet charges.
Buffalo Ridge charges:
$39.00 -- office visit
21.00 -- fecal test (cat)
48.00 -- Felv/FIV test (cat)
12.00 -- deworming (up to 20 lbs., cat)
15.50 -- Rabies (cat)
