I live in Marion County part of TV, and in my mail today, received a bill from SUMTER County Tax Collector for my license plate renewal fees. I have never lived in Sumter County, did not purchase either vehicle in Sumter County, and certainly shouldn't owe Sumter County for my license plate fees. Did TV annex our portion of The Villages to Sumter County without our knowledge???? If not, & if I'm not the only one in Marion County to receive this, then here's an example of "wasted" tax dollars for printing, postage, etc. As usual, when you get this type of mail, the offices are closed so you can't call them.

I thought license plates fees go to the state. If so would it make difference where you renew or renewed them? I got mine at sumpter co. Annex but I live in marion co.

Ok . Thanks for sharing on Christmas Eve . My heart goes out to you for your stress .

I'm not stressed.....just wondered if I am the only person this has happened to. Merry Christmas to you!

The Sumter County Offices (except the Sheriff's Office) chose to give their employees Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off. However, they will be open on Friday, December 26th, so you can call then and get your answer.

You receive renewal from the county you originally registered the car in. I believe the county receives a small fee for processing. If it really upsets you, take the renewal form to the Marion County office or call them for address and mail renewal to them.

This happened to me. Went to the Sumter County clerks office at Pinellas. They could not have been nicer. Said it was a zip code error and because TV borders both counties it's not uncommon but it really doesn't matter where you paid. The clerk fixed the error and I renewed there. Easy peasy!

I got mine last month and everything was for Marion County. When I first moved here, I went to the Lake County office down near Chula Vista. At the next renewal, I drove up to the Tax Collector in Belleview. Since then all has been good.

I would say to drive over to the Tax Collector across from Wal-Mart and let them straighten it out. Bring a check for the renewal because credit cards cost extra.

I live in Sumter County, but last year I received my renewal from Lake County. I spoke with Lake County, who told me this happens all the time and to just send the payment in to them and they will fix it through the computer. I happened to be at the Sumter County office a couple months later and they told me I should have been told to bring the bill and payment directly to Sumter County and to do so if it ever happens again. I got the impression, Sumter County may have been missing out on some cut of the fee.

I do it all online, including my drivers license. Avoid the lines at motor vehicle dept. When I did my license, they used the same photo that was used in 2005 so when my license expires in 2019, the photo will be 14 years old.

My neighbor got hers from Sumter county and we live in Marion county. She called to correct it and was told it didn't make any difference. I certainly would think it would make a difference.

Why ? It's a state DMV function. It could be done in Miami.

If your license is due for renewal, be thankful that you received the renewal notice and pay the fee with a smile. And be exceptionally glad you are here and not in Massachusetts where you would most likely be very unhappy about the service at The Registry of Motor Vehicles

You can also go to the one next to Pinellas shopping centre, they always sort out any queries I have.
