I am a new villager and have a stucco/concrete home. I want to hang a light art piece on the outside of my home and do not know the proper way to drill into the concrete and what fastener/hangers to use.
I do have a drill with a concrete bit, but from there I am lost.
Please help,
I've never had a concrete home before,
Thanks,
New villages,

I've tried the standard power drill with a cement bit to no avail. Had a friend come over with his impact power drill...like cutting butter.

Go to home depot get a Tapcon drill & a matching set of screws--no plastic shields are needed they will work better than anything out there

You will need a hammer drill and concrete drill bits. The hammer drill vibrates in and out while rotating and the concrete bit are fluted so that the slag from the hole can be removed without overheating and destroying the bit. As it sounds that you'll not be using them frequently my suggestion is to go to Harbor Freight on 27 in Leesburg and pick up an inexpensive drill and bits there, they sell mainly inexpensive Chinese made tools, not the best quality but the work fine for one-off jobs.
If it just a couple of holes you need done send me a PM and I'll let you borrow my hammer drill and bits, I can even help out with some screws.

After you drill the hole and are putting in the screw apply some clear silicone caulk. This will prevent any moisture getting into the stucco where you drilled the hole.

I have used a regular drill and concrete bit. It is harder to use than a hammer drill, but it is what I have. I pull out and push in a little as I drill. It does take a lot of pressure pushing in. I use the plastic holder and screw which should work for what you want. You can not use a regular screw alone.

I agree with above (rjm1cc), in fact for the holidays I installed around 40 or more hooks in stucco with plastic inserts using standard concrete bits, regular power drill, with no problems at all.
I like the idea of the silicone of the outside installations, I will be going back to do this after the holidays.
