I recently moved to The Villages. I've been visiting here for a number of years and am happy now to be a fulltime resident. I hate to start out by complaining, but I see the inconsiderate people takeing their dogs someplace other than their own house or dog parks to do their "business".
I'm sure this is not the first time someone has mentioned this, but wonder what can, or has been done to curtail this.
Any comments or direction as to possible solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for dog poop. You will have enough reading material to last till next year.

Welcome to the villages. What village? When did you move here? Introduce yourself.

Wouldn't it be great if we could hit "rewind" and all the old posts would appear as if new? Then no one would need to complain again--just hit rewind.

Welcome to The Villages, Tmishc2. The reason you are getting this reaction is because this is a common complaint/post on TOTV and it can be VERY inflammatory and people who are regulars here are very tired of seeing it and seeing all the angry posts it causes on both sides. It's not personal, but you will get hit pretty hard for starting, yet again, a thread that has gone around and around with no end or solution. Dog lovers who scoop and aren't doing it are tired of the accusations and having to defend, and people who experience what you do are tired of dealing with the issue. It's not pretty when these posts hit. And gerryann is correct, if you search here there are a ton of previous posts on this topic and you won't have to start a new one. Maybe you can get some good ideas how to handle this issue without this thread going on too long or getting to heated.

I don't worry what goes on on the common property, some body else's property, or the developer property. Why? it's not my property so it's non of my business.:beer3:

You have to understand self centered inconsiderate people are that way in most aspects of their lives. Not just cleaning up after their dogs.

I agree with Gerryann and I think I smell a fish. . . .

Tmisch2 --You use the term, "takeing (sic) their dogs someplace." So where are they taking them that bothers you? This is quite different than saying people are simply walking their dog. Your reference is that they are taking their dogs to a specific place that bothers you.

I guess this really doesn't bother you too much because after visiting a number of times, you still purchased here.

Wow...you guys are really rough...happy holidays and all that! I saw dogs in the area when I visited, too, but never thought I would have an issue with people letting them go on my lawn...we just didn't have that where I lived. I agree that this is an old tired thread and those of us that find this behavior disrespectful just have to monitor our own property and forget about the rest, but just like everyone is telling the OP, if you are unhappy with these threads just stay off them, just as you are suggesting she move...how rude. So "America's friendliest hometown". There is nothing "suspect" about her query. I doubt everyone of us loves EVERYTHING about The Villages, and yet, we live here. Unless of course, as some of you swear, this is an imposter, just looking for trouble...still not sure how you guys know that, and I really hope that is the case, because if not, you've just really been rude to someone you don't even know. How sad...

Don't blame the dog owners. It's the dogs. You see, they are actually alien beings who survive on Earth by entering a parasite/host relationship with a human. They secrete an enzyme from their butts which they transfer to their host by licking the butt and then licking the human on the lips. This enzyme is contains a hallucinogen which creates a maternal überbond between the human and the alien while concurrently assigning dominance to the alien. Another component of the enzyme lowers inhibitions and increases imperiousness and self-righteousness in the human host. If you've ever been leg humped, you've been marked as a potential host. The mystery is "What is the end game of these aliens?" Wake up, America.

With all due respect, you have been visiting here for years, have you never noticed this before? Dogs on leashes are welcome almost anywhere, and are a common sight in The Villages.
What would you suggest to a dog owner, who had their dog potty before leaving home… and finds the dog chooses to 'go' again somewhere along their journey?

Now seriously, there are only two restaurants in the entire Villages that to my knowledge allow dogs on their patio......but YOU have seen dogs there....in strollers MANY times. MANY times. Yeah right

Just wait till you go out for a relaxing evening meal and end up sitting next to one in a baby carriage

Does this happen often to you? In seven years, this has never happened to us, and we eat out a lot.
Would this issue occur on a dog-friendly patio? If so, the dogs have every right to be there.
Often people take small dogs to the town squares in a baby stroller so they don't get injured, or it could be a dog with a disability.
If people are taking dogs in a restaurant where they aren't permitted, then you should notify management.

When you see a #1 post and it's about a controversial issue like dogs, guns, politics...whatever. I'm sure some people have quite a few ID's.
You'll also notice, they quite often disappear after creating a disagreement.

I think you're right gerryann.
Some people get their jollies from creating multiple identities and trolling on controversial issues.
It happens from time to time. The Mods usually catch it.

Use the street!

…and what…. drag them there as they are lifting a leg? (we're talking common spaces here, not homeowner's lawns)That would work well (!)... as long as there is no traffic or pedestrian in the way at that moment. Don't try it in the square, you'll have to knock someone on their arse to make it to the street in time.

Look, I love this place. I especially love the landscaping. I don't enjoy seeing a pooch pee on public flower borders, next to sidewalks…. flowers meant for our enjoyment…. but it happens. I appreciate those who keep their pets out of the flowers.
There may be those few owners who make a ritual of purposely toilet-ing their dogs in that fashion… whether it be public flowers or the neighbor's bougainvillea.
I consider those people to be ignorant slobs. They were ignorant slobs before they came here, however, and probably before they became dog owners.
But my question was for the original poster- I'd like to know what he/she would suggest.

When I moved here, I researched the pet friendly communities only. There are "no pets allowed" communities in Florida for those that have a problem with dogs. The posts from the folks that have problems with dogs are so exaggerated that no matter what anyone says...their mind is set. They just plain don't want to see dogs in restaurants that allow pets on patios, in the squares, on the streets, at the farmers markets, ANYwhere. It's really too bad, because the dogs aren't going anywhere. Those that moved here really should have done their research. I did....which is why I'm here. In my neighborhood, most folks have dogs. We all walk our dogs. If an accident happens, it is picked up imedietly. ALWAYS! Everyone picks up. Guess I just got lucky......

Being rude to people that are strangers happens a lot on this forum.

. It is rude to hurt the feelings of all dog owners when only some are to blame. There are a lot of things done selfishly that are very annoying and inconveniencing to others; like saving chairs, trashing someone on Topix, putting things in your yard that are not allowed, riding a motor scooter on multi-modal paths and complaining all of the time.

That is just how some people are..

:agree:
We also researched only pet-friendly communities.
We moved to The Villages because there are two dogs allowed per household with no size restrictions.
I wish there were more dog parks - I think that would solve a lot of the angst about dogs.
Our solution is to visit the private dog park daily. We don't mind paying to use DDRR.

are people being considerate and respectful of others...that is all that is required. Dogs can be taught where to do their business and not to bark...it's simple and not cruel in the least...it just takes owners who care....
