our friend jim strazz came up with an intriguing idea for discussion....we know we have a lively boomers representation here in the Villages, but what about those of us born between 1940-1945? we should have a good name to indicate the world into which we were born at that time in history....a lot took place between 1940 and 1946 when the boomer generation began....manabouttown gave me two good suggestions and the one i really like is Cuspers, because we have been on the cusp of a changing world. i will let him tell you the other suggestion, also very good....meanwhile, if you feel left out by not being a "boomer", what would you like to be tagged, and why?

OOOOPS!
Silent, you say? I didn't get the memo.

i don't think we should be "lumped in" with any other group because we were born during the war....think how different the world was in 1945 from 1920! and as gracie says, most of us did not get the memo about silence :)

I understand those born between 1934 and 1945 are known as Generation Ike or "Ikes"; the younger baby boomers, those born from 1954 through 1964 are referred to as Generation Jones. Why do you feel you need a name to represent yourself? Can you not be happy being born in a certain time frame without giving it a "nickname"? The folks in The Villages Baby Boomers were themselves just kids after 1945. They didn't give themselves that name. I feel you should be happy with yourself regardless of age without having to give yourself a goofy nickname.

She did not say it was important to her happiness or life. Light topics can be welcome on this forum. Furthermore, she asked about coming up with a "good" name, not a "goofy" one!

i certainly remember my parents wearing their I Like Ike buttons in my childhood, so the nickname Ikes would be a good one but might be politically divisive in this day and age! :(

Almost sounds like we're talking about movie genres.

"War Babies" has another, more specific meaning, but it does cover the time period in question.

Did anyone suggest the name "Early Boomers"?

love that suggestion tomwed! the greatest generation applies to our parents, those who lived through the depression and two wars and did so much to advance our nation. i guess they would also be part of the Silent Generation, implying silence is golden :)

I also like early boomers. We formed the leading edge of the upward trending birthrate curve which started in 1940 although it dipped in 1944 and 1945. http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/SamuelBernard2.gif I remember that we had to go to high school in three shifts during my sophomore year until the new high school being built was up and running.
If I recall correctly when I was a child some adults referred to us as war babies since we were born during WWII. However, that term can connote illegitimacy. War Babies - definition of War Babies by The Free Dictionary (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/War+Babies)

I'm with you, Diane. I know our birthdays are just a couple of months apart. I'm just one year & one month too "old" to be a Boomer. If we take on a name, does that mean we will also start a group here in TV?

no, we don't need to start a group unless someone feels so inclined :) our unclub keeps me busier than i really should be!

You realize that an Early Bloomer could also be an Early Boomer so they would be called an Early Bloomer Boomer. But what if they were negative all the time. Always brought everyone down in every discussion. Then they would be called an Early Bloomer Boomer Doomer.
I'm glad I'm not one of those. It wouldn't even fit on my side of the golf cart hood.
And what if we caught them with a loofa on their hood. We would talk about what kind of private life they have.
This would be called an Early Bloomer Boomer Doomer Rumor.
And just supposed they took care of the dogs of other people that had loofas on their hood.
Then this would be a Early Bloomer Boomer Doomer Groomer Rumor.
