At home tonight, but wondering why TV doesn't have music in the squares go until 12:30am - have some small fireworks, etc. Or have a first night type of event with different "stages" of entertainment at churches, rec centers, etc. Would be fun!

We used to have music at the squares until 12:30 but the drinking, chair saving, etc. got carried away. People used to park their cars around the square the day before and then switch their cars for tables, chairs, etc. A minority of residents basically ruined it for everyone and The Villages didn't want to be babysitters for amateurs or irresponsible people. Can't blame them.

I remember when there was music at the squares until 12:30 on New Years Eve. Too much drinking and partying especially from young people outside TV (late teens early 20"s). There was a lot of trouble with much police presence. Thing just got out of hand so iit was decided the music would stop at 9:00

We used to go to the squares for New Years and it was a lot of fun for the major
It's. There was no more police presences than a Rocky and the Rollers night on the square. There also was no more presence of "young people" than is experienced today.

It may have been the table saving and car parking and a few grumps who tangled verbally about it. Which led to complaints by a few that got the legal part of the developers concerned about liability exposure......hence the ending of an excellent New Years venue that was enjoyed by the majority.

It's a question often asked by newer residents.
Such a shame that a few people ruined it for the rest.
It reminds me of the buffalo we all used to enjoy seeing in our fields.

I think that law suit was when many of the changes to the "old way of doing things" happened.

I suppose with the enormous growth things were bound to change, but .......

how many places have you lived where the developer phased out and the residents decimated the life style as you intimate above?

I have participated in two in the past years. And like all good, well run organizations we elected responsible people to manage our developement with resident home owner value and lifestyle being the number one objectives. Both are alive and well and look and feel the same as when we lived there. Home values over the last 10 and 20 years have doubled with some even more.

And now back to the subject of the thread......which has nothing to do with the fall and decline of TV.;)

Sometines you just have to leave the environs of The Villages.

Mrs. Trap and I went with another Villages couple to Orlando yesterday afternoon, checked into a Marriott, went to a good dinner and then enjoyed seeing Billy Joel in concert at thr Amway Center. It was an amazing show with a sold out attendance of around 15,000.

We stayed overnight and had a leisurely drive back home.

Absolutely a great time!

Couple examples;
one district painted stripes on the trails, others didn't
some district have no sign rule, others don't
This resulted from power plays from some individuals. The lack of consistency in the rules can only lead to trouble. This is "making decisions on our own".

yup cannot argue with you....the 2 examples you cited out of the several thousand that the ACC has made the past few years will definitely lead to the down fall of the north side of THE VILLAGES.....btw look at the fiasco at Colony Cottage hmmmm didn't the developer run that show.....and wait until the F.P. expansion adds to it

I absolutely, completely and entirely disagree with you. I don't want The Villages to ever change or to be run by Villagers.

In most small homeowners associations those who have never run anything get a chance to really mess things up. Imagine what it would be like in a big place like The Villages. Just LOOK at like size cities.

I never want the south side of 466 to ever change.

We live in the best run place in The U.S. but it wouldn't be if the inmates take over the asylum.

That is MY opinion.

I don't think the North side going down hill at all. IMO We have all the luxuries the south side has except the traffic problems. The south side has no tennis facility with only two tennis courts per Rec Center (you would of thought some 4 courts at couple rec centers would of been nice)(but as usually Golf took priority and the tennis facility got scraped). All the serious tennis players (with knee or back problems has to drive All the way up north to Glenview or Lopez). So this would be like NO Championship golf course in the south and all you golfers would have to drive 11 to 15 miles to play the Finer Courses. So you see the south side not all that for some of us.

GG we have had this discussion before....."again" it is only a matter of time before changes come to the ever glorious south side.....the only reason they haven't come yet is that TV on the S/S is still in a state of limbo because of the ever-going IRS fiasco....I know you don't believe it but do your research .... once that is finally settled all those new Rec Centers and softball fields and other amenities that the developer now owns will be sold back to each individual district....then you will start to look at where all your amenity $$$$ are going.....I for one like having my felllow seniors keeping an eye on the books

I don't think that's correct. The amenities will be sold to LSCDD, just as those north of 466 were sold to VCCDD. I anticipate there will be either a second AAC for south, or a larger combined AAC for the whole shebang.

unless one has participated in a transition from a developer to residents or know the details of the current plans in existence (which will of course model those not transitioned yet)....then it is just emotion speaking with a negative anticipation for no reason.

I will tell you from experience the biggest issue facing TV in it's future is resident representation and good fiscal responsibility with annual budgets. Then there should no ex budget activitites or projects. For example the want of a covered swimming pool. It has to be justified and funded or it does not get done. And the residents who remain silent have the most to loose. There will be many wants and if not handled correctly will only lead to additional assessments on top of the existing amenity fees. The minority usually creates the problem and the majority complains AFTER the costs are passed along to the residents.

There will be no problem maintaining the current lifestyle and all that goes with it including increasing property values.....AS LONG AS THE RESIDENTS REMAIN FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE. We do not have the luxury of the federal government to spend beyond the means available.

I have participated in the good the bad and the ugly of resident ownership of amenities.

A benevolent dictator, aka the developer, is what we should all hope for.

A group run by committees to design a horse usually results in a camel. That is what you are asking for. I've been an HOA president in the past. Believe me - you don't want to go there
