Does anyone have an update on when it is planned to open?

I haven't seen anything. However, last week I got a renewal notice for the last 3 concerts of the Philharmonic season which were supposed to be at the Sharon, but are now scheduled for Savannah Center. Something tells me that the Sharon is running a little behind whatever magic schedule was planned.

Today's paper said they are putting the finishing touches on, whatever that means.
A sales rep said she thought that it might late January or early February for the grand opening.

Does anyone know the total capacity for Sharon? Sometime ago I heard numbers from 800 to 1200. That's a big leeway. Bigger the capacity believe they can contract top notch entertainment.

I think the capacity is around1100 and there is a parking lot in back for 67 cars. So if you have 2 sold out performences, rocky at the square and a good band at katie bells, where will everyone park? That does not include the restaurants and the movie theaters.:lipsrsealed:

There's plenty of parking at all the squares. The only thing is you might have to walk a block or two!

I am not a negative person. Really!!
But we were a bit disappointed in the concert seating at the Savannah Center. (That makes me sound like a snob, which I am not! Truly!)
The entertainment was great. But the folding chairs with no space between rows surprised us. We did expect theater quality seats. Everything else here is top notch!
We are hoping that the Sharon Morse Center will be what we were expecting at Savannah.

Dotti, you can subscribe (http://thevillages.com/signup/) to The Villages email newsletter, if you don't already. It sometimes includes updates on major construction projects.

If I am going to attended a show at the Sharon Morse Performing Arts Center I will go to the parking lot behind the center and put a string across a parking space or maybe take possession of an orange cone that is not being used and reserve my parking spot.

I am sure will happen is people will come early in the morning and have someone follow them and drop of their car in the parking lot behind e center. Then they will find other transportation to the show, jump in their car fter the show with a short walk to the parking lot. Or much simpler put up orange cones

Sounds like valet parking would be a good idea.

Thanks for the data on capacity Boxsoxfan and thanks Bogie Shooter for You Tube on Sharon. Must have missed this Vmail. Let's now hope that acoustic will be great. Wonder if 1100 will be enough to bring Orlando or Tampa based musicals, drama, classical performances to the new theatre. Heard that Pippin will be making a national tour and coming to both Orlando and Tampa. Would be great if we can book them.

I read something a while back that there would be a shuttle from the Winn Dixie Parking Lot.

It'll be nice I'm sure but what about ticket prices? I suppose they will be first class too.
Remember the good ole days when one could catch a free show at the church on the square?

Patience Grasshopper. We don't know yet. We are sure to hear complaints later no matter how nice it is.
As is said sometimes in the middle of the country , some people expect when they fall into an outhouse, to come out with a new suit on.

Ah, the good ole days..................in so many ways they are gone forever.
I don't think it will be as bad as this, but...........
ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons are asking fans to pay one-time fees of as much as $45,000 for the right to purchase club-level tickets in the team's new stadium.

The "free" shows can be booked at Savannah Center once the bigger, more expensive ones perform at The Sharon.
Let's not "look a gift horse in the mouth". The Morse family is building this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility after years of talk and meetings by "friends of the performing arts" groups trying to come up with that kind of money, to no avail.
There was no heralding of this project. They just DO it, and pay for it, quietly. I think they're to be commended for providing a totally First Class venue.

Thank-you Morse's.
I had no idea the free or almost free shows will also be available as before. You made my day.
