View Full Version : Any gay clubs in the Villages?

I only heard part of a rumor that some gay Villagers were going to try to stop a ban that is pending which would prevent them from inviting their "outside the Villages" friends here to dance. Could someone give me more details, I know nothing about this?

If hetrosexual friends from outside the Villages are allowed to dance here, what is the difference in allowing gay friends to dance? Please cllue me in.

sjeffries,

There is a club. If you look under clubs you will find it and they also publicize there events. I only have there email address. If I find the URL for the club I will post it here.

A rumor is a rumor and is only a rumor. I haven't heard anything about this rumor.

The town squares, entertainment and dancing are open to the public, also most restaurants and shops. I think you've heard another unfortunate, unfounded rumour. Everyone is welcome in TV.

Barefoot,

Thank goodness all are welcome. I was wondering how one could be stopped from entering a club. Rumors :edit: :edit: :edit:

Katie Belles is limited to residents only, and their guests. Straight or gay. No discrimination anywhere that I know of.

I'm hoping the issue is really that some dances are limited to residents only, no local guests. I have seen it posted that only residents would be allowed to some events in the Thursday activity section. Some state only residents and out-of-area guests. Some are for everyone with an additional fee for the guest.

sjeffries - I think from all of the responses that you got it is just a rumor. If it isn't a rumor there are all of us who will go to battle crap crap crap crap crap to fight it and obviously win. We will become the :#1: fighters of discrimination.

Hope all of the responses you received will make you feel better that a rumor is a rumor and is only a rumor.

Thank you for trusting us for an honest response to your query. Thank you for posting about the rumor you heard.

Have not seen any discrimination in this regard in TV. I am not very attuned to it not being gay but would be surprised if any gay/lesbian couples had any problems dancing on one of the Villages' squares.

VILLAGER'S
I don't think this is a legitimate inquiry.........Its his (or hers) first post and there have been no rumors of any BAN that I have heard of certainly no postings of heterosexual only dances.. Not sure how many friends invite people from outside the villages as most of the dances are residents only except for the town squares.......
Not sure this even deserves a comment as they aren't very UP on the subject and can't spell HETEROSEXUAL..........

I think you're right. Sjeffries may be playing with us. Sometimes it's good to have a suspicious Fumar in the crowd.

Have had a lot of experience with trolls. >:(

Have not seen my own troll like nemesis thankfully since mid 2006. No sign of him on TOTV.

He sure made my Internet experience a living nightmare for almost 4 years (mid 2002 through 2006).

But like my grandmother always said. "Don't make love at the garden gate, love is blind, but the neighbors ain't."

Even if a troll some good stuff came out of it. We have a link for the rainbow club here for our friends who are gay. We know that most dances are limited to residents only. We know that many of us would speak up if we saw discrimination of this sort. So, sjeffries, thank you for uniting us whether trolling or not.

It never ceases to amaze me what information is available on TOTV.

If this post was initiated by a TROLL I thank them, cause I did not know what an internet TROLL was.

If the inquiry is legitimate, fear not we are a very caring and tolerant community. Seriously doubt that discrimination would be at play here. :) :)

I believe that there is absolutely no ban on anyone from attending or participating in venues that are open to all as in Town Square. In the case of activities at Neighborhood Rec Centers they are restricted to residents and resident's guests who have Guest ID's.

Functions that are held at Regional Rec Centers are open to all those who pay admission or have tickets and in the case of Sumter County Board of County Commissioners Meetings held at Colony Cottage Rec Center, I think they must be open to the public.

If anyone were to seriously question the policies of TV and the attitudes of TV residents this post dispels any of those rumored myths!

I thank each and everyone of you for your contributions to this post, they only reinforce why we have chosen to become residents of TV. I only wish we were moving sooner.

If anyone is curious, the Rainbow Family & Friends Club of The Villages, Florida, www.rainbowfamilyvillagesfl.com , is just that.... a non-discriminating all inclusive organization.

Fumar, good call about the TROLL.

Another great organization in TV is:

PFLAG The Villages

(Since Redwitch pointed out the hazards of posting sensitive information on an "Open Forum" feel free to PM me and I'll happily give you all the contact info.)

PFLAG is awesome! I've sent several friends in California to it when their children "came out." It really has helped them understand and accept. I'm one of those odd ducks who truly doesn't care if someone is gay or straight; black, white or purple; male or female; your religious choice is irrelevant to me; heck, I'll even accept you being a conservative. My prejudices are against bigots. I truly cannot tolerate them and refuse to associate them.

Now, I will say that I'm sure there are some in TV who are extremely prejudiced against gays. If not by their personal beliefs, then by their religious beliefs. Given the demographics of TV, it would be strange if that weren't the case. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them didn't try to "ban" gays from any public function. I would, however, be very surprised if the developer would in any way sanction this bigotry.

I do love how TOTVers jumped on this thread to quickly defend TV and show what a wonderful group we are. WE. ALL. ROCK!!!!

Maybe, a group like PFLAG is one resource that should be linked from as many public libraries as possible?? Education seems to be way of curbing bigotry.

That's another project that TOTVers might want to get involved with is contacting FL public libraries as well as those in their snow bird states and requesting these libraries to update their websites to include PFLAG.

You can get to many websites of public libraries through this resource which covers every state. This one is for FL for example-- http://www.publiclibraries.com/florida.htm

I agree with much said here. My partner and I have been warmly welcomed, by TOTV's, AND by everyone we have been involved with from the developers side. We appreciate it, and is why we are so excited to become a part of the community in a month or so.

Hi Punkie, since you signed your name that way I decided it is okay to call you Punkie, if you prefer I do not, please let me know.

We knew about PFLAG when we first started looking into TV and another couple and us wanted to go to a meeting or an outing they were having. Never did - timing was bad. We weren't in TV when either was happening.

Originally the name of the organization was something like Gay and Lesbian and did not include Family. Since the name was so specific I did not know if we would be welcomed but looked at askance as intruders - if we went to an event.

I was very happy to see the name change.

We still plan to join and go to a meeting or an event if there is one when we are in TV.

My bestest of bestest friends of 45 years declared her orientation to me about 20 years ago. She is still my bestest of bestest friends and will always be. (Yes, I'm fully aware this is poor English!)

My nephew declared his orientation about 15 years ago.

People are people...no matter who they love or what they believe in. We have a right to be who we are and not be judged by others. That should be one of the freedoms of living in the United States of America....based on equality, individual rights, and diversity.

Red,

At some point in every day we say to each other, "I can't wait till we're in TV!"
It was awesome meeting you as well, if you hadn't shown me how to get back to LSL from SS it would have taken me much, much longer to find my way there.
