I was in Bali last year and really enjoyed seeing a new culture. I was surprised to find out that Bali is predominatly Hindu while the rest of Indonesia is mainly Muslim. The monkeys in their sacred monkey forest are all over the place. The large males (around 40 pounds) can get aggressive. I was in one of the temples in the forest and one jumped on my back and bit me! I have been bitten by many different critters but this was a first - being bitten by a sacred monkey!

I spent some time on Bali a few years ago. It is a beautiful place but be aware of the rabies epidemic which now seems to be abating. Australians frequent Bali so their health department has monitored the rabies situation for some time. When I was there I noticed dogs all over the place and they all seemed to have curly tails.

Thailand is fantastic! The food is wonderful (French influence) and the people are very nice.

I based in Ubud Bali for a week and had a wonderful trip. Bali is an amazing place. We hired a guide to take us on a walk through the rice paddies and small villages. Loved the arts and crafts, especially the jewelry. The dances are fascinating as well as the gamelan music that you can hear throughout the island.

I have used hotels dot com to find hotels all around the world. I follow up by checking the reviews of those I am considering on tripadvisor dot com. I have had few disappointments using the combination of these two sites to find acceptable accommodations .
