Radon Gas in TV homes?

Has anyone had their home tested recently? Is radon gas even a problem in TV?

Our home in Ohio did not pass the radon test by a sliver. However, of course the buyers wanted the mitigation which costs $850. We have windows in our basement and if we had aired it out before test I think it would have passed. The national maps showed little radon in Florida. As noted earlier - it's an underground phenomenon.

Radon is heavier than air and therefore tends to accumulate in basements after migrating into the house from below. In that Villages houses don't have basements, it's doubtful that you'll find Radon here. To my knowledge, a Radon test is not a requirement for the sale of a house here.

When up north we live close to the Reading Prong, an underground area known to produce radon, and there was a time when everyone was getting his or her basement tested for it. It did indeed turn up in a handful of homes. My recollection is that the issue was in basements only because of the weight of the radon gas, as mentioned earlier in the thread. Based on what we learned back then, it is extremely unlikely bordering on impossible for radon to be an issue here in Florida with sandy soil and no basements.

when I was in the management business in Naples, Radon showed up in a few townhouses, but the source was never identified positively. At the same time, it showed up on the 10th floor of a high rise in miami. The source was traced to imported aggregate used in the concrete. More recently, here in Mass, radon has been traced to granite countertops. FYI

I live in the radon capital of the world...or at least the state of Colorado is.

The appetitive word is GRANITE...Radon gas is linked to granite.

When I bought I just expected them to test for Radon because you have to do it here. But I was told no test was needed because of the limited amount of granite in the state and because we would not have a basement.

Alway been under the supposition that radon is only a problem in the northern and western states.....................

Obama has proposed that 30% of American autos be converted to radon power by 2012 and that 84% by 2020. His economic policy calls for substantial subsidies for radon producers and gov't incentives for gas stations that convert to radon. Meanwhile, the Senate has passed a bill prohibiting any drilling for radon within 500 miles on the coast or on any land within 1000 miles of a national park.

Awww, we sold our last home too early. We did a radon abatement package for the new buyers when the test showed radon levels off the wall. We could have been rich!! You crack me up, Muncle. :1rotfl:
