View Full Version : Conditions of the golf courses right now
Hi Friends,
We will be back in the wonderful Villages the end of this month ( June) and was wondering the conditions of the golf courses. We have some friends coming with us to visit TV for the 1st time....We know from a neighbor who was in TV the month of May that the beg. of the month everything was burned up. When we spoke with her ( she is back home up north) around May 15th, she said there had been no rain for almost a month. Just wondering, is everything still burned up or is is better? Any Golf course info would be appreciated!

I played Cane Garden yesterday and I thought it was in good shape.
I played it on the Thursday the 22nd and it was so dry that on Hibiscus they wouldn't let us on the fairway with a cart on #3. The grass on the fairway was brown and cracked when we walked on it. We started to play #4 and the sky opened and it poured for the next 3 hours. Everyone was so happy to get rained out we all went to the bar and toasted the sky.
When I played Cane Garden yesterday (Friday the 30th) it was the difference of night and day thanks to the rain that we have had in the last week. It was in good condition and with the rain that we will have between now and when you get here at the end of June the courses will be in very good shape. You will love it!
Also you may want to see the Aerification Schedule which is under the Turf Talk section of

The fairways are brown and dry. The Bermuda rough is non existant. The greens That I have played on after aerification are in really good shape.
This my first season of "summer golf" in TV. I am surprised at the attitudes of many of the golfers here. For the price we pay, I believe the courses here are in very good condition. Golfers in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada would love to have the rates and course conditions we have right now. Brits ans other Europeans think Americans are spoiled because of the conditions of our courses.
The American golfer has come to expect their courses to resemble Augusta National in appearance. Watch this years British Open, and you will see what I mean by course conditions in Europe. More and more American greens keepers are coming to the conclusion that their course will become more dry and and less plush in the foreseeable future. The greening of the golf course is the most volatile subject today at all of the golf course industry seminars.
Please be ready to accept the changes to your golf courses, because the are definitely coming.
