Believe it or not, my friend and I used to ride the subway, from the Bronx, all over the city. We were about 7 at the time. Our parents would have killed us! I was one of the few who was calmer as a teen than I was in grammar school!

Climbed Rattlesnake Mountain in my bare feet when I was around 13 years old?? That's the mountain (really a high hill) that is two inches from the right near the top below the higher mountains around Reno, Nevada in this picture. http://nevadamax.com/page16/rm.html
It is the hill with the very small cliff face near the bottom. I was smart enough though to go around the cliff.

My was a continual thing. I wanted to fly so very, very bad. I tried everything -- umbrella, balloons, sheet for a parachute, gliding cause I was just an itty bitty thang .... I jumped from trees, barn lofts, barn roofs, third floors, small overhangs. I broke a few bones and it was a small miracle I didn't kill myself.
As a teen, my major bonehead move was hitchhiking from NJ to CA. Mom had been sick and I had to stay with some friends for the last half of my junior year. Oscar took me to the airport to fly home but couldn't stay. I cashed in the ticket and started hitching. Amazingly, not a bit of trouble the whole way -- some couples did offer me money to take a bus home and fed me, etc. When I hit AZ, I called my brother to come get me. Mom never knew what I had done (I'd called her and said I was staying with a friend for a couple of weeks before flying home and Oscar just assumed I'd told Mom I was on my way home).

Tied ropes to an old overstuffed chair that someone had thrown out in the alley, put it on a small moving dolly and took each other on some wild and crazy rides thru the alleys of Chicago. We did have to be more creative when we were kids, dont ya think? 1rnfl

When I was about 5 my parents were having a big birthday party for us. :joke: The kids were all in the backyard when my mom said to all their friends, "look how cute, the kids are playing croquet". At that point my cute 3 yr. old sister got in my way and I cracked her head open with the mallet. Yes the ambulance was called. Several stitches needed. PARTY OVER!!! >:( after that I've been good as gold ;)

Love this topic Nonie---
I was a big rule follower as a kid; however, as folks remind me, I met my husband, Jim, when I was very young (and immature), and eloped 6 weeks later. He was older, and I adored him. We were married over 30 years--very happy years too, and had two great kids--He was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and passed away 7 years ago. :( But I know if Jim were still here, he would LOVE TV as I do.
Hope to see all the folks I met when I was down there(end of April) again soon---and meet the folks I haven't yet met, but feel I know from enjoying TOTV quite often.
Thanks again, Nonie

Met four other girls in kindergarden and literally became best friends from day one. Went through grade school with them and high school and am still close with them now although we are scattered all over the country. Going to see one of them in Vegas in a couple of weeks. So that's the background. You can imagine in all of those years, we did many crazy things. Elyse, Maria, Kathy, Sandy and me!
Early on we would emulate movies or movie stars. I would be Katharine Hepburn and maybe Elyse would be Rita Hayworth, or Kathy would be Doris Day, etc. So we'd stay in character, even in classes. Drove everyone nuts! This was a grade school thing. Also if we loved a movie, that's what we were. Like the Nun's Story. We were all Nun's for quite some time with towels on our heads. Bell, Book and Candle was another favorite. We were all witches. That lasted a really long time. And I can't remember what movie prompted it but our teachers nicknamed us "The Gun Girls" we carried cap pistols. (Confiscated many times.)
Even in freshman High School, we decided to be The Beatles for a while. Elyse was George, Maria was Ringo, Kathy was John and I was Paul. Sandy didn't participate because she was too busy getting pregnant! Hal-lo!
So these friendships are over 50 years and we've been through it all together.
From cutting out of lunch in grade school to swing upside down from the bars in the bathroom stalls to the Halloween egging of cars (police pulled us in and called our parents.) I was driving, Maria was shotgun, sneaking each other out of the windows of our houses to go into the city to Rush Street. All the way through marriages, divorces, pregnancies, more marriages, more divorces. (Elyse is attempting her 5th marriage!)
These wonderful girls and I just clicked from day one. Just like Nonie, Barefoot and I. And the adventures will continue with my new friends, I hope, because there's one thing I know for sure. I don't ever want to be an adult. :joke:

Thanks for the memories, that was sooo funny. We Chicago girls must have been a little bit nuts. My gradeschool friends and I used to stand out in the schoolyard at recess and sing pop songs to the whole school like we were famous performers. When I was a teenager, I used to hitchhike with a little paring knife in the pocket of my shorts for protection, although I never had to use it. It was probably dull anyway. Just one of those things I didn't tell my mother about. I forgot I ever did it until some guy reminded me at a high school reunion 40 years later. I can't believe I was ever that young and naive. ;D

Walked home from a date in Queens to Manhattan (where I lived) over the 59th (Queensboro) Bridge, got about a quarter the way across, and decided to go the rest of the way by climbing up and down the girders of the bridge above the roadway and the East River. Captain and I and our friend Peter drove from our home town of Lexington, Ma to Gloucester Ma. in 20 minutes. A trip that would take about 1 hour if you were driving the speed limit. Peter was driving his Mom Ford Esquire Station Wagon, I was in the middle and Captain in the passenger seat. I remeber how exciting it was flying down Rte 128, a new 4 lane highway.

A bunch of us teens were squashed into a car and we decided to start tickling everyone in the car including the driver. He (the teen driver) lost control of the car. We ran off the road over a fence and into a field near a creek. We missed hitting a tree, and didn't flip over. We were very lucky no one was hurt, and we were able to get the car back on the road. There were no seat belts back then. But there were lots of crazy daredevils weren't there!! We didn't really think about consequences!

I have a scar on my right thumb from another crazy thing I did.
There is a steep hill near a golf course in Reno, Nevada. There's a barb wired fence that seperates the golf course from the steep hill. The barb wire fence is at the bottom of this 20 feet hill.
My friends got the bright idea of riding our bikes down the steep hill and turning so that we would miss the barbed wire fence. Well, I did not turn in time and wound up in the barbed wire fence.
Think I did this when I was around 12 or 13.

Nonie, this is not the craziest but certainly the most stupid:
I was always teased by my Italian family, that I was the most Irish looking kid in our family. Auburn hair and millions of freckles. So one day, I decided to try to count my freckles but it was too easy to lose count. So what did I do??? Idiot, decided to put tincture merthiolate on each freckle as I counted it. If anybody knows that stuff, its like iodine and is impossible to get the stain off your skin. It was okay on my arms, but when I did it on my face, that was absolutely stupid! Scrubbed and scrubbed and couldn't get it off, hundreds of red dots everywhere on my face. I should be embarrassed to have admitted this story.
Not too bright, Kathie

After coming in from outside I was really dirty. My mother sent me to clean up and when I finished, she wasn't satisfied that I was clean enough. She sent me back to the bathroom and said, "this time use some elbow grease". I went through every drawer and cabinet in that bathroom and finally told my mother, "I can't find any elbow grease".

How about a rolling roadblock to slow down traffic on I-75 south of Dayton OH to race. We'd cruise thru Frisch's Restaurant all night until someone said let's go. The next time you go through the Buckeye State and are between mile markers 44 & 47 don't try it. The traffic today is horrendous. Won a few lost a few. Finally got off the interstate and went to, of all places, Greene County Airport near Xenia OH. Much safer. No planes after dark and just a shear cliff at the end of the runway. One 69 Camaro went over the cliff. The guy wound up driving for Gray Hound Bus. LOL.
