Good Morning All,
Harold and Alice from New Jersey , plan on our move in 2015 to TV,
our phone contract is coming up soon with Verizon and was wondering if anyone is on the Sprint network as the plans are much cheaper or is it the old you get what you pay for.. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply!

I a, using Verizon as my cell carrier and am very pleased. O nthis thread you will see good and bad for just about every carrier. My wife has TMobile and it appears to be the absolute worst

For home service I installed Magic Jack a few weeks ago. Seems to be working well and you can't beat the price. $59.00 first year including device and approx $35 per yr or less after that.

We moved here about 3 months ago. We haven't changed cell service yet but we are also looking for a different company due to price and quality. I will tell you that ATT is really not working for me at all. It might be my phone (iPhone) but I didn't have the problem in CA. I'm receiving voicemails 3 to 5 days late however the quality has been good. We're looking into Sprint..

I think you have the best coverage with V in TV

Have Sprint but not for long!

Worked great in South Fla. but up here - lose calls, mostly poor reception.

Contract up soon and, like you, do not know where to go!

Wait until you get here. The Villages is so large reception can vary by area. I have ATT with a microcell booster that cost $85. No problems

Verizon wireless plus Ooma for home phone.

We travel a lot and find Verizon to have excellent coverage just about every where we go and have been.

More often than not we have had Verizon coverage consistently in remote areas where AT&T has none. Those with us on AT&T are usually not happy....having to wait to get back to civilization to catch up.

i had verizon for years but way to much $$$$$$ i switched last year to Cricket....they are owned by AT&T .... for $70.00 a month with auto pay...my wife and I both have smart phones with unlimited minutes, and text, the data plan is the first 2.5 GB is 4G LTE speeds then after that is slows to about 3G but it is unlimited also no contract so if you dont like it after trying for a few months shut it off

All of that's fine & dandy but what about dropped calls? Reception? Voice mail arriving 3 days late?

We live I Sanibel, and have Verizon. Before moving here Verizon was the best service, since we moved here we are dropping calls all the time. Last week my husband had to call someone and had to go to the mail station to make the call. Put in a trouble ticket and just got a call from V and they said yes we had very poor service in our area and we could either get out of our contract or pay $175 (a reduced rate) for a booster. Now we don't know what to do. I'm not sure how A&tt service will be in our location. I think we may try Smart Talk.

We have V and it works well south of 466A. We aren't locked into the dome so when we leave to travel outside we find V provides coverage throughout the Country. I think a part of your choice will be how you intend to use it....and where.

For cell phones, we have Straight Talk. Excellent coverage - they use Verizon satellites. There is no contract, but you have to buy your phone outright. Walmart has the best deals. We pay $45 a month for unlimited everything - voice, text, and internet. Our can also get unlimited text and internet, with 100 minutes for $30 a month. He savings pay for our smart phone very quick.

I use Consumer Cellular. The towers are AT&T. Good service for me anywhere in TV except inside some big buildings.
We have two lines no contract. We have 750 min 1000 text and some data. Total bill including taxes is $44.60/ month for both lines. If I see I am going to run over I can add minutes to the plan one month then take them off for the next. My phone will alert me if I get close to going over. Very flexible and low cost.

I have Wireless Republic. I'm happy. I bought a moto G for 150 from them and my monthly bill was $10. I upped it to 25 to use their data plan. I was going to drop it this week but now I will be getting back money for the data I don't use.

Totally agree. Verizon for cell and Magic Jack for home. My wife still has TMobile and coverage is so bad you could open the front door and yell and have a better chance of reaching the person you are calling. We have used MJ for past three months. Excellent

STRAIGHT TALK sells phones using all the major carriers. If you want Verizon as your carrier you must buy a phone with a red map on the package, for ATT a blue map.Do an internet search on the subject, lots of information.

My husband and I are shopping now. So far we went to sprint and Verizon to compare costs of two Samsung galaxy 5 phones The cost per month was almost identical. We have always heard Verizon is good but i do have a friend who loves sprint. Someone also mentioned to me there was an article in the POA paper about complaints from Verizon customers?? I did not see article. We will keep asking around before making decision. Sorry I am of no help since I'm in shopping stage myself

Hi Tomwed,

I am considering switching over to Republic Wireless, after reading some good reviews and considering the $25 plan to get the data plan as well. Would be interested in your opinion of the service, both pro and con. Is there a data limit in the plan? Why are you considering dropping the plan?

Thanks,

Agree about Verizon for cell but Magicjack is bad news for home. I bought an Ooma phone and for $10/mo I have unlimited phone calls to US and Canada, and, if I travel, I can hook up Ooma wherever I am staying and the phone rings just as if I were in TV!

We just switched from Sprint to AT&T. Sprint rarely pulled in the internet when we were out in the car, but we never had problems with dropped calls or internet at home in Tamarind Grove. But we needed to have unlocked phones for travel, and AT&T has them.

So far the AT&T service & internet is very good. No dropped calls, no waits for voice mails to come in, and picks up internet all over TV.

MJ at home, no problems with that in either MI or FL.
