I have a gas golf cart. It backfires all the time, anyone know what causes that problem?

Don't know what causes it, but problem can be solved by trading it in for an electric cart.

Now that you mention it when I eat beans or Mexican food I get gas and I backfire, too. ;D

I'm taking advantage of "golf car" thread to ask a question from golf car users. We are building in Hemingway and want to buy a golf car. Being newbies we don't know what's best "electric or gas". Can some of you owners share some light? What do you recommend. I know gas golf cars make some noise but go a little faster. How about electric? How often do you have to plug in? Does it use a lot of electricity? Whatever information you friends can provide it will be appreciated. We'll be renting from July till September (our closing date) and will like to buy golf car when we get there in July.

pili, I'm in the market too, and buying a villa in hemmingway. There are plenty of old threads on this topic. Read the recent one by Village Kahuna (I think) on the 2008 EZGO.

I'm going with electric without a doubt. EZGO showroom or Golf Cart Connections (rebuilt Club Car, not the Star Cart), they're my first two stops.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to do both golf and cruise TV, I would suggest a gas cart. I perfer the gas because we do a lot of cruising. There have been days that we put nearly a 100 miles on. The gas cart gets about 40-45 miles to the gallon.
The electrics will get 35-50 miles per charge, and that depends if you are using your lights. The lights will knock off 10-15 miles.

How long does it take to charge the batteries? Can you golf in the morning and return home for lunch, charge the batteries for an hour, and golf in the afternoon with a fully charged cart?

We have a couple electric and a gas. We have driven our electric cart accross TV and played 9 holes of golf. When we did this we got close to being out of power by the time we got home. The warning light came on. With one of our other electric carts we ran out of power before getting home. Both had fairly new batteries. We have cruised all over TV with our electric carts (no golf) and never had a problem. I like having the gas for those times we play golf at the far away courses. As far as cost of the electric I have no idea but don't think it is much.

In a 48 V Club Car my playing partner and I left his house in Liberty Park, drove to Havana Golf Courses, played 18 holes and then he drove me back to my home in Polo Ridge and then back to his home in Liberty Park with no issues on 4 year old batteries.

We have two gas carts. On a normal day I play 18 holes of golf, home , shower, dinner, then to the square or Katie Bells. If I had an electric, I would never make it home. In your travels around TV just check the number of carts broke down, it's 99 out of a 100 electric.

I have two Electric Club cars, In four years I have never had a problem with either...............Don't be misled about the breaking down of carts...there is very little that can go wrong with an Electric Cart while there are many many things that can go wrong with gas...........

If I run run out of gas I can call someone and they will bring me some gas and I'm on my way...if I run out of electric....

Att: Dog -- Most back fires on carts in good condition are caused by the gas pedal linkage or idle set screw not allowing the gas to totally shut off -- a couple drops of fuel seeps into the system and when the vapors get near the hot exhaust they blow -- it is a real loud bang, but easily adjusted -- sounds great in the tunnels --

Somewhat off topic, but could anyone explain where in TV one can travel to do 100 miles in a day? In the two full months that we were in TV this past winter, I don't think we did a total of 100 miles in the whole time....
