Since a poster seems fascinated with this guy and his college days..for some unknown reason, this thread is for that poster and those who would like to know that facts behind this hatchet job.....

Politico did a pretty good job in looking into this...the link attached will take you there and explain in GREAT DETAIL what is behind this smearing by the Democratic party, and it is, to me a very complimentary article to Scott Walker.

I recommend its reading, but will share a bit and I would be ok in copying and pasting but it is long and detailed.....just a smattering...

"Some Walker critics have engaged in a long campaign of unproven attacks, taking advantage of his reluctance -- until now -- to shed more light on this period. Walker has sometimes fueled the fire by shifting how he presents elements of his biography.

State Democrats cry the governor was "kicked out" of student elections at the Jesuit university in Milwaukee -- and maybe booted from Marquette altogether.

Walker, meanwhile, insists he left on his own just one semester shy of a degree as part of a career decision unrelated to any political future.

In this item we’ll examine what is known and unknown and what is perhaps unknowable regarding the statements made by both sides.

....."Twenty-five years later, the state Democratic Party’s website alleges that "Scott Walker was kicked out of student elections at Marquette University after masterminding a scheme that destroyed newspapers critical of him."

The post adds: "Walker either dropped out or was forced out not long after."

...."Mike Tate, chairman of the state Democrats, told us the party based its post on unnamed sources who he said had privately passed on information about possible "nefarious activity" that Tate did not describe.

Those parties would be reluctant to talk to a reporter, he said. The allegation is defensible, said Tate, because the party is trying to raise questions about the "mystery" of Walker’s departure.

That’s a flimsy case, at best. At worst, it suggests a possible fictional smear.

....."Others who have publicly pushed theories of a cheating scandal or of Walker flunking out also provide no proof or admit they have only questions."

....."We heard nothing -- and found no evidence -- suggesting Walker was pushed out of the university.

....."When we asked Dorrington whether any conduct issues were on Walker’s earlier school record, he said Walker would have to permit release of that information. Walker did so in response to our request.

"Governor Walker was in good standing each term while he was enrolled at Marquette University and when he left Marquette University," Associate Vice Provost Anne Deahl said in a letter. "Governor Walker was not expelled or suspended from the university at any time."

Finally, there’s another problem with the Democratic Party’s claims.

According to MU, Walker left school after the spring semester in 1990. That’s more than two years after the 1988 election, instead of the "not long after" the Dems claim.

The article spends some time discussing the campus issues and the change in Walker and his political beliefs and how he decided, ironically, that the character smear stuff was not for him.

......"His credit total is 34 short of the 128 minimum needed to graduate in one major, a total that requires an average of 16 per semester. Walker told the 1990 yearbook interviewer he was triple majoring in political science, philosophy and economics; that likely would have meant an even heavier load.

It may be the most detailed report on a young man that I have ever seen, warts and all..and none of his past is locked up or not permitted to be read.

I hope the poster who consistently refers to this man instead of actually discussing any issues and where he stands on them is satisfied. I hope she reads the entire thing and that maybe gets some peace.

You are welcome that you do not have to begin this thread

So are you going to post the link to the article you suggest we read? What did the other poster you mention says about Gov. Walker which you needed to update?

Post 26 on thread DREAM TICKET......this is one and I have no time to search out the others right now...

"Your time would be better spent vetting the candidates who might be running for the Republican nomination. Did you know that Gov Scott Walker, one of the favorites, does not have a college degree? Why is this important you might ask? Well, not since the 1800's has anyone been elected president without a college degree, and most of the recent presidents have degrees from Ivy League schools.

POST 5 ON THREAD..DONT YOU LOVE THE MEDIA...

"Should a college drop out even be considered? It would seem that Gov Walker lacked the initiative to go back and earn a few credits over a period of 20 years.

This might be a good topic for a new thread. Should POTUS have a college degree? Most entry-level jobs require one these days, why not POTUS.

Basis for the truth is first hand experience in the classroom where budget cuts have gouged the very existence of the educational process. Do you live in Wisconsin like I have for 46 years, 18 of them in the classroom?

Free public education for ALL is the basis of our country, our values and our freedoms. Ignorance is a great evil. It may even lead to being a puppet for the Koch brothers...

Thanks for finding them. This one is accurate in that it stated Walker does not have a college degree. It is inaccurate in that the last POTUS without one was Harry Truman. Of course Harry became POTUS without ever running for the office. Others without a college degree were all in the 1700's and 1800's. Since FDR 7 of the 13 POTUS did graduate from an Ivy League School and all 4 of the most recent, so full credit on the claim of Most.

And thanks for this one. In this it is claimed that Walker lacked the initiative to go finish his degree. In the link you have now supplied it says this about his uncompleted degree:

Walker insists he left on his own just one semester shy of a degree as part of a career decision unrelated to any political future...an average student who was indifferent to some classes, Walker was not on track to graduate in four years. Walker actually has about a year left in school, maybe more, based on Marquette records and available evidence -- considerably more than the 15 to 17 credits he mentions to interviewers...In January 2013, Walker said in his annual "state of the state" speech that, "I thought I would squeeze in a course here or there and finish things off in a year or two, but then Tonette and I got married."

A story in Time made a similar point after its reporter interviewed Walker. After taking the Red Cross job in 1990, the story said, "at first he tried to be a part time student, but quickly the births of his children took that option off the table."

In reality, Walker didn’t marry until 1993, and his first of two sons arrived in 1994.

That gave him several years to take classes before family obligations or his government career began.

So I would say that Governor Walker has never really explained why he left school and never went back. He did admit to being indifferent in classes. So I think the post was accurate in mentioning he lacked the initiative to go finish his degree but was inaccurate in saying he lacks only a few credits. The governor has refused to release his college transcripts following on the example of President Barack Obama perhaps.

One of the reprocussions certainly is that the next generation of Wisconsin students will not have the opportunity to learn to misspell repercussions. Tragic and true.... /snark sorry

As to whether Governor Walker's time in office reflects a belief in the value of education and love of learning... We can examine the Wisconsin Idea which has been part of state educational policy for over 100 years..

Walker proposed replacing the mission's goal to "extend knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its campus" and to "serve and stimulate society" with a goal "to meet the state's workforce needs"

Nothing says you have a commitment to education like replacing extend knowledge and serve society with meet workforce needs. As to Walker's claim this was a drafting error, here is the Pants On Fire rating for that

As to Walker not completing college one might ask what Bill Gates thinks about that issue. As to the reason he drop out of college given the left's unethical, untrue and unsuccessful attacks against Walker the governor one would expect the left to tell a lie here to dirty the governor hopeful presidential bid. Beside that was long ago does it matter now?

Along those same lines does it matter where a presidential candidate's social issues rest. What is important are his/her positions concerning foreign policy, defense of this nation and the economy.

A candidate where social issues don't matter, has no foreign policy experience, and whose state lags behind in job and wage growth should have no qualms about being a college dropout.

I'm sorry ... when I saw "...has no foreign policy experience, and whose state lags behind in job and wage growth " I had to reread this as at first I thought you were talking about Obama.

By the way, has he ever released his embarrassingly low GPAs at Harvard and Columbia?

Bill Gates scored 1590 out of 1600 on his SAT, was accepted to Harvard, excelled in his computer classes and had a definite plan when he left college.

But more to the point seem you were unable to answer your own question..

From the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation :

A college education is the gateway to the American middle class, with college graduates earning as much as 65 percent more than those with only a high school education. But many who want to attend college cannot afford it.

Poor college completion rates in the U.S. hurt the national economy. Our investments seek to accelerate efforts already under way in higher education and to support the enormous talent, creativity, and energy being applied to improving student completion rates and lowering costs while raising the quality of the U.S. postsecondary education system.

So now you tell me, what does Bill Gates think about not completing college?

What state was Obama the governor of? And if his grades haven't been released, how do you know they are embarrassingly low?

I am not from Wisconsin but from the outside it looks like he was attempting to save a state from insolvency and in doing so made some tough decisions. The trouble is when a leader makes the tough calls there is some pain somewhere. It happens everyday in private sector.

And what was his GPA at Occidental, Columbia and Harvard Law? There are conflicting sources as to his Columbia grades. He did well enough at Occidental to get into Columbia as a transfer student. He did well enough at Columbia to get into Harvard Law School and he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law meaning very near the top of his class. Of course he didn't earn any of those good grades as everyone just gave him A's because he is ... right? But if he was getting AffirmAtive Action A's then he had a terrific GPA. It doesn't work both ways. And you can be damn sure that Harvard Law does not grant Magna Cum Laude degrees. It now only goes to the top 10% of GPA's at Harvard Law.

Good post - the problem is those that have never worked in the private sector don't understand the concept of tough calls and pain.

I bet you were really upset, then, when obama locked up all his school records and even his birth certificate...
