Is anyone surprised at this....

"President Barack Obama and his minions in the White House and the press have had a lot to say about how ‘disrespectful’ it was for Congress to invite Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of congress without informing the White House. And how wrong it was for Netanyahu to accept when he knew the White House hadn’t been informed.

Breaking: NYT Admits Obama Deliberately Manufactured Netanyahu Spat | Rob Miller | The Blogs | The Times of Israel (http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/breaking-nyt-admits-obama-deliberately-manufactured-netanyahu-spat/)

THIS IS THE ACTUAL CORRECTION IN THE NEW YORK TIMES THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO WANT TO TALK ABOUT....

"Correction: January 30, 2015
An earlier version of this article misstated when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel accepted Speaker John A. Boehner’s invitation to address Congress. He accepted after the administration had been informed of the invitation, not before."

This is the link to the Times article and the correction is at the bottom of the page...

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/30/us/politics/benjamin-netanyahu-is-talking-to-harry-reid-and-leading-democrats-to-little-effect-so-far.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&_r=5

More from the first link to the Times of Israel....

"Of course, the truth is that the White House was never bypassed or circumvented. Netanyahu only accepted Speaker John Boehner’s invitation after he knew the White House had been informed and had a chance to object.

And if the Obama White House had some objection and had actually communicated it to Netanyahu, do you think that just maybe, he might have made decision not to accept the speaking invitation?

Instead, the Obama White House said nothing, and Netanyahu, whose country gets threatened with destruction by Iran about every other week decided to accept Boehner’s invitation to speak to congress and help provide an impetus for legislation on Iranian sanctions that’s in both Israel and America’s interest .

"So there was a precedent set then, and no reason for Boehner or Netanyahu to assume there was any problem when the White House didn’t respond with any objections this time.

The resulting fracas was simply kabuki outrage manufactured to create a negative impression that Israel had somehow ‘disrespected’ an American president. And of course, to assist Netanyahu’s political enemies in the coming election…where the Obama Administration has already sent a crack campaign team and millions in campaign funds for the same purpose. The shotgun wedding of Labor’s Yitzhak Herzog and Tzipi Livni lost no time in trying to spin this to show that ‘Netanyahu was destroying Israel’s relationship with the U.S.’

"President Obama's administration has responded harshly to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's accepting an invitation to address the Congress two weeks before elections, saying he did so without first notifying the White House - but was it lying?

The fallout of the speech has led Obama and US Secretary of State John Kerry to say they won't meet with Netanyahu, and Vice President Joe Biden to boycott the speech, with the latest wrinkle being a reported White House initiative to talk Netanyahu out of the speech.

In making the accusations that Netanyahu is coming unannounced, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said typical protocol was for leaders to contact the White House before planning a visit, claiming the White House didn't learn of the invitation until just before House of Representatives Speaker Republican John Boehner publicly announced that he had offered the invitation and that Netanyahu had accepted it.

Likewise, State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said "traditionally we would learn about plans of leaders…separately from…the Speaker," again insinuating that Netanyahu did not inform the White House of the visit.

However, David Bernstein writes in the Washington Post that a New York Times correction added to the original story on January 30 revealed that "an earlier version of this article misstated when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel accepted Speaker John A. Boehner’s invitation to address Congress. He accepted after the administration had been informed of the invitation, not before."

The correction has yet to lead to a retraction of the criticism on the part of the White House, and many are asking why the New York Times isn't publishing how it came to learn that the administration was in fact informed in advance and how that happened.

While the correction doesn't detail who informed the White House, it still means that the White House knew about the invitation ahead of Netanyahu's acceptance, and most likely, Netanyahu knew that the White House was informed when he accepted. Also, Obama apparently didn't oppose the idea after being informed, given that the invitation went ahead as planned. That being the case, Obama's criticism of an "unannounced visit" would be completely off base.

Did Obama Lie about Netanyahu Congress Invitation? (http://jewishvoiceny.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10089:did-obama-lie-about-netanyahu-congress-invitation&catid=110:national&Itemid=293)

And tell me who might not be, ie friends of expedience ?

And also, please explain how whatever excuses the President of the United States of lying and allowing something to fester for political purposes.

How in the world can this man be trusted He accuses others of doing exactly what he is doing (interfering with the Israel election) while negotiating with a regime in Iran who professes LOUDLY that they want to destroy Israel and kill all Jews.

I have to wonder if he is anti-semetic and pro-Islamic?

I don't like his foolishness of late with the selfies, catering to the young kids. Especially when so many very serious issues are being ignored or mishandled.

He seems so retaliatory since the November elections. It is when a president is in disfavor that his true character and statesmanship shows the most. AND they all have been at one time or another. History is the best judge of their doings.

I am so disappointed these days in our president.

If you wish to begin a thread about the Liberty in 1967 and deal with facts, be my guest ON A DIFFERENT THREAD.

This thread is about our President deliberately beginning a squabble in this country where he lied about it....and being involved in the Israeli election while accusing others of doing this.

THIS IS NOT A SIMPLY POLITICAL SPAT...THIS IS DONE WHILE WE ARE NEGOTIATING WITH A COUNTRY WHO SWEARS AND VOWS TO DESTROY WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND WHOM THE PRESIDENT SEEMS TO BE FOND IN SO MANY WAYS.

It is amazing. No big deal to the media. They simply stopped covering all the BIG BAD BOEHNER....poor Obama thing.

NY Times is losing a lot of credibility the last month or so in a desperate attempt to defend this WH.

I am of the opinion that this presidency will now begin to slowly dismantle. His arrogant, defiant tone since the election is going to do him in.

I don't think so. He is so self centered and arrogant he will continue to behave in the same manner regardless the fall out around him.
No different than he did after the mid-term elections.
There is not a single action this man takes that is not Obama centered.
Caring for and defending the USA and we the people? I give you the last 6++ years as proof these are NOT priorities.

Yes he gets a free ride from the media because it suits their agendas. These are some pretty saavy and smart executives....does anybody think they do what they do because they like Obama or that he offers them anything they could not get on their own? Not a chance. Yhey are taking advantage of facilitating their agendas and AVOIDING appearing to be against the black guy!!

I think it is TOTV rules that require posters to stay on the subject of the thread. Many times they will interrupt conversations to insure you stay on topic..

No scolding, moderating or yelling.

Just "reminding" that the subject is the lying of the President in regards to this speech and that other discussions should take the form of a new thread.

Do you need directions to the rules of the forum ?? Or assistance in beginning a new thread ?

Another member of the old gang of six. They only have one logical viewpoint, theirs! Their tactic is an attempt to browbeat and bully anyone contesting their views. As far as the thread goes, the original op quoted a variety of sources an even mentioned the labor party of Israel. Seems to me israel's motives and past practices should come to play, and the attack is actually a fact. So true that Israel paid millions to the survivors and the U.S. government for the damages to that ship, that was deliberately and repeatedly attacked by them, in international waters!

One poster said that the New York times is losing its credibility. i paused over the word "losing"because the New York times has had to recant so many alleged valid accounts they ordered an additional supply of ink. and they have fired so many reporters they had to up their budget for new employee recruitment.

Another poster wrote that he/she was losing respect for Obama.
Again I paused because before one can lose respect for someone that someone first has to earn your respect. Name one thing Obama has done where one would gain his respect.

This guy is plain evil, the master of deception, a pathological lair and an enemy of America. As long as he remains prwsident all of which I said will be refuted but eventually after he leaves us people will begin to come out and tell the truth.

another poster complained that the same guest seems to be the one starting all the political forums threads. I hope so because whoever he/she is, I think he writes like a male is well researched cogent in presentation and writes so that people have an opening to respond good for him

Adding and to me even more insulting to the American Public is the harsh statements made by this President about not interfering in the Israeli elections and his moral outrage at the fact that Netanyahu speaking to congress about negotiations that will impact his land FOREVER would be interfering...

This was written before his lies about even knowing about the invitation were made known...

"CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 29, 2015 — President Obama has been lying to the American people for so long that he isn’t even good at it any more. Prevarication used to be Obama’s strength, but “the little boy who cried wolf” has used up his supply of mistruths and falsehoods.

On March 3, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address congress. Bibi’s words will be much closer to a State of the Union address than Obama’s.

Following Netanyahu’s speech, Obama will snub his visit; the Obama Administration supposedly does not want to interfere with the upcoming elections in Israel. That excuse is as hollow as the president’s reasons for skipping the solidarity demonstration in Paris after the Charlie Hebdo attacks.

Obama is superb at lying with a straight face, but he has lost the ability to convince the world he is being truthful. Not that he cares. Each day he spends in office now is nothing more an effort to get him to the next, until he can pass his flickering torch and aberrant record to whoever follows him.

Obama honestly believes he has accomplished great things for the American people. The sad fact is that his greatest achievement will be to leave office. That will be his real legacy.

The president is crying foul over the Netenyahu visit and the impropriety of a head of state bypassing executive approval by going directly to congress. Not that Obama has never used similar tactics himself, ignoring the legislative branch of government on several occasions.

To the point....

"
Far worse, and much less reported by the media, is that while the administration claims it does not want to interfere with Israel’s elections, it already has operatives in that country who are aiding Netnayahu’s opposition.

More on the above post about our WH aiding in the election in Israel. Ever wonder WHY our President does not want Netanyahu in office and WHY he needs to be involved in their election while negotiating with their mortal enemy ?

BOTH parties are involved in this election, but only ONE is denying it....only ONE continues to try and make everyone else feel guilty...WHY

"JERUSALEM — President Obama says he won't meet with Benjamin Netanyahu when the Israeli prime minister visits Washington next month because it's too close to Israel's election. That's not stopping former Obama campaign aides and donors from getting involved.

In fact, Israel's election has become a bipartisan, American affair. Campaign strategists for Senate Republicans work as consultants, and money is pouring in from wealthy Democratic and GOP contributors.

"
The organization, Victory 2015 or V15 for short, has partnered with OneVoice, a liberal, non-profit group that has hired several U.S. political consultants. The most notable is Jeremy Bird, who served as national field director for Obama's 2012 re-election campaign. The White House has said Bird is working on his own.

The consultants "have a lot of experience in U.S. campaigns, and door-to-door campaigning is an American concept," said Anat Goihman, 29, a OneVoice staffer. "We meet people who want things to be different, and we urge them to vote."

Uri Wollman, V15's spokesman, told USA TODAY that its funding comes from four philanthropists, including two based in the USA: S. Daniel Abraham, founder of Slim Fast Foods and a major Democratic Party donor, and Daniel Lubetzky, founder of OneVoice, which has received grants from the U.S. and European governments.

Two grants totaling $350,000 came from the State Department, according to department and other documents. Last month, Cruz and Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., sent Secretary of State John Kerry a letter demanding details on who approved U.S. government funds for OneVoice, how they are being spent and whether OneVoice's work with V15 violates its status as a tax-exempt organization.

"Has President Obama launched a political campaign against Prime Minister Netanyahu and his representatives?" Cruz asked."

I am confused by this situation. What is it that the WH said that was a lie, with citations of what they said please. It seems that a series of events occurred..

The GOP leadership in the House decided to invite Netanyahu and sent him an invitation with absolutely no consultation with the WH of this invitation. They did this on what date?
On Wed Jan 21st some member of Boehner's office notified the WH that the invitation had been sent then within something like three hours made the invitation public.

The Jerusalem post reported it thusly
"WASHINGTON -- The White House expressed displeasure with the handling of an upcoming visit by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United States on Wednesday, after the Israeli premier received an invitation by House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner to address a joint session of Congress next month.

Boehner told reporters he did not inform the White House of his plans to invite Netanyahu to the US until this morning. Neither did the prime minister's office.

Aboard Air Force One en route to Idaho, US President Barack Obama's press secretary said that typical protocol for the visit of a national figurehead had been breached somewhere along the way."

I don't see in that anything about the timing of the acceptance in the WH statement. I don't see what LIE you claim was made by the WH. What I do see is an error in the timing in a NYT article about exactly when Netanyahu said yes to the invitation. Where is the WH lie about that timing? The complaint was about the WH being bypassed. And did Boehner admit to that, he certainly did on Fox News. "I wanted to make sure that there was no interference"

If you read the Bernstein opinion story on W Post he clearly indicates that his investigation shows that the invitation of Netanyahu had been delivered long before the WH was informed and the details of the visit had been settled between Boehner's and Netanyahu's offices. Once it was all done and three hours before the public announcement, the WH was informed. Once that happened, then Netanyahu formally accepted the invitation. The WH pointed out that this in not the way such matters are handled and complained. Never did the WH say that Netanyahu formally accepted before they were informed, unless you can find such a citation.

So, again, show me where the White House lied (not where the NYT made an error).

The Congress is not empowered to negotiate with foreign countries; that is the purview of the Executive Branch. This is the first time that this kind of thing has been done and I believe it sets a poor precedent.

Let me say on the record, I am and was not happy with the invitation.

Having said that, now knowing that Netanyahu was being ignored by the WH, and IN MY OPINION, this being one of the most important negotiations in years and most important to Israel, I understand it.

There must be communications between the WH and congress. It just has to be.

I am not sure about the poor precedent, but I can see the point. This is SO VITAL to Israel and they have been a close ally for so long, I just do not understand the freezing them out.

It is the very meaning of life and death for that country.

But, again see why folks do not like it and I can see both sides on this issue, but the thread was more about the misleading of the american public about the very facts of the invitation.

I am still awaiting someone who is attacking the Obama administration to point out the LIE they are accused of making in this situation. And the accusation that they caused this problem is ridiculous. Boehner admitted on Fox that his office deliberately shut out the WH in negotiating with a foreign government as Boehner did not want interference. Like it or not it is the executive branch which is in charge of negotiating with foreign governments, both the Israeli and Iranian governments. And if the WH pointed that out and the GOP gets its feelings hurt, that is so sad. Perhaps Boehner can cry some more.

Instead those on the right say, we need to do it differently than it has always been done because 1. We always opposed Obama 2. We are too stupid to know exactly what Netanyahu will say if we ask his opinion of negotiating with Iran. 3. In the SOTU speech Obama asked Congress to let the negotiations see what they can accomplish and we want to Spit in his face as soon as possible so we announce this end run around the WH on the morning after the SOTU.

Not in a position to say that I know anything for sure on this. What it appears from multiple sources is this....

Netanyahu requested through the WH permission to speak to congress, on his assumption that congress would be consulted on any treaty, especially this one.

The WH ignored him totally and never even responded.

Boehner knowing all of this, invited him on his own to speak to congress.

The WH then turned the tables, ommitted the fact that they had ignored Netanyahu and never answered him and just criticized Boehner.

That is what appears to be the case. You can pick your bad guy from that.

I might add that there are a number of Democrats, not just the guy in NJ, who welcome him and do not understand what the WH is up to on this thing.

And if Netanyahu never communicated with the WH about wanting to speak to Congress, and the WH therefore never ignored his request.. would that change your perspective on this? If all of the negotiation began and ended with Netanyahu and Boehner doing this on their own, bypassing the WH completely until just moments before the public announcement?

Maybe I missed it but I never saw anything about Bibi asking the WH for their consent before this process or during this process. What I saw is that Bibi never communicated with the WH on this issue leaving it up to Boehner to provide that notification.

So citation please from one of those multiple sources? I have looked unsuccessfully for that aspect of the story
