I play the Powerball once a week. I've won some and lost more. But I keep trying. Gambling, just one of my three or four vices!

I like to go to Hard Rock in Tampa. Also buy a scratch off every week. Won some, lost some, but I do have fun.

I very rarely play the NY lottery because I'm truly disappointed when I loose....and I know I will loose. Several years ago before NY was part of the Power Ball , one of the guys in my office was going to Ct to visit his sister. A group of us got together and he agreed to buy $100.00 worth of Ct Power Ball tickets that weekend. As it turned out we won!!! A whole eleven dollars! Everyone told the guy who stopped to buy the tickets to keep the money to pay the tolls and gas. (It was cheap gas back then)

I occasionally buy a Megamillions ticket when the jackpot is over $100M. State lotteries are nothing more than regressive taxes which prey on those people who can least afford it. I know that, but I still buy a ticket once in awhile. It's the people who buy $20 worth for each drawing when they are living on $7/hour that I worry about. Also, the State of NY has had a lottery for many years - I'm sure more than 25. I know a lot of people, but I don't know one soul who has won a lottery jackpot. What does that tell me? That I am pretty dumb to be contributing my hard earned money. But I do it anyways . . . .

Collie1228......
I agree with you. I seem to remember the NY lottery starting in the mid 1960's. I think the top prize was 100k. Shortly after it went to one million. With all the millions of tickets sold I have only met one person who won a sizable amount of cash. That person is a friend on my neighbor. He won 45k in Pick 5.

Also......
It was supposed to be that half of all money from ticket sales went to the education fund. That should be 10's of millions every few weeks because the NY state lotto claims to give out that much in prize money. So why are my school taxes among the highest in the country?

Nope. Don't play. Just save the money. It works better for me.
