Okay data-heads, your advice will be appreciated.

I'm in the market for a new desktop. I do a lot of audio, photo and video editing -- not just MP4 kind of stuff but also feature length. So, I'm looking for a lot of speed, memory and hard drive capacity. However, I am not a gamer. What's your opinion of the best brand and system configuration out there under $1000?

I've switched to Apple. So pleased!

Try Refresh Computers in La Plaza Grande. They have some nice used iMacs for under $1000. I'm sure they can bump up the memory and get you a couple of big hard drives and still stay within budget. I picked up an iMac a couple of years ago for around $600. Before I retired in 2012 I worked as a feature film editor and DVD author. We used only Apple... mostly the Power Mac and some iMacs. Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools all seemed to work better on a Mac. The only PC program we used was a Scenarist Blu-Ray disk authoring program, but it ran best on an Apple running Windows XP. Yes, you can run Windows on a Mac.

I bought an HP Envy laptop that is awesome. 17" screen. Lots of memory and fast on everything. It was around $1000. Check the prices both on HP website and on others for the best price. I ended up purchasing it from HP.

Mac is the best for that type of work.

If you're really interested in getting a good computer, you could call us so we could help you build a computer. We could build an amazing computer that still fits into your budget. You usually get more value with a custom computer than with a factory computer.

I personally like Dell since I do consulting and my clients use the wintel platform.

I suggest you go to cnet.com--excellent reviews of everything electronic.
