A small development with four one-story buildings for retail, restaurant, and medical office uses is planned for the site where the now-closed O'Shea's restaurant is located.

There was a thread going about a year and a half ago that the fellow who owns the Holiday Inn at Spanish Springs was going to build a motel and bowling alley at the O'shea location. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-general-discussion-73/coming-soon-bowling-alley-80688/

I know EXACTLY what is going up there.

BUT - I won't reveal it for another year or so................

Let me guess::: A Subway, a bank or two, a small Chinese restaurant, a couple of small other restaurants like frozen yogurt, Beef's, a nail salon, insurance store, some sort of postal/mailing store, barber store. Not sure about the small clothing stores (not to be confused with stores with small clothing), and probably a Walgreens. I don't know about a grocery store??
The rest hopefully will be a surprise. Actually, I hope the entire retail area is full of things we currently don't have and will actually like!!!

We definitely need some meaningful retail on the south side of the Villages. We can only hope the developer or other entity is going to invest in something other than 800 square foot speciality shops

From an extremely reliable source, the current bowling centers owner (the Ducats) did purchase land close to Brownwood, but not in The Villages proper. This purchase happened at least 3 years ago with the intent of building another bowling center. The sign that went up announcing a future center near O'sheas on SR 44 was on land owned by someone named Patel. The fact that the Ducats have not proceeded with their third bowling center as yet leads me to believe they probably won't anytime soon. But , this is only my opinion and they could announce a new center tomorrow. As far as I know, neither center would be golf cart accessable.
And I thought I read awhile back that Home Goods announced a new store near the Brownwood Publix.

A neighbor serves on the Hospital Board and he says that the plan is to have a larger hospital (which is building now) . We are only 17 miles from stem to stern.

If I were the TV hospital I would want a significant ambulatory presence in/near Brownwood to keep the competition at bay. An urgent care center, maybe a stand-alone ER, surgery center, etc. if they don't someone else will. You should recommend this to your neighbor, GG.

I don't know exactly what it means to serve on a hospital board. I just neighbor.

If they build it maybe a large teaching hospital will come run it. That is what I want. I imagine it is leased for a certain length of time.

I know they had talked about opening another hospital in the south but I think I remember something about they had more chance of attracting more doctors with a bigger facility.

so I am just guessing and trying to remember what was told me.

I know that this was your life work dbussone, and I am not meaning to contradict you.

I am sure the folks whose business it is to provide urgent care services are aware of the opportunities.

Because we all know they read TOTV daily; like all the restaurant owners, shop owners, golf ambassadors, golf course maintenance managers, etc.

Huge drawback for whatever opens there - it is not golf cart accessible!

Yes, some make it without being golf cart accessible but lots fail because of that reason.

An Urgent Care Clinic ----maybe-----another hospital----unlikely. For those living near Brownwood you already have two fairly close hospitals. Leesburg and The Villages.

Bogie, I have searched the sites that I frequent, and even looked for future locations on the Homegoods website. Nothing. I "thought" I read that somewhere because we had a Homegoods in Myrtle Beach and I am familiar with shopping there. And I thought that was a good thing they were coming to The Villages. Of course, I could be mistaken...

You are assuming the location would be across CR44. Have you looked at the land to the west of Brownwood and the N side of CR44?

The developer builds to suit the business they try to attract. The developer cannot be Home Goods and cannot make Home Goods come here. But they wish they would, I am sure.

According to the Sumter County site, in March 2013 Steven Parramore sold that parcel to Wildwood Enterprise LLC.

In February 2015, development of that parcel was reviewed and approved by the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board - discussed here: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-general-discussion-73/new-shopping-near-brownwood-141496/
The proposal showed the owner as Wildwood Enterprise and the applicant shown on that proposal was Alpesh Patel.

So I don't think there will be a bowling alley or hotel in that location. Maybe somewhere else?

All these large companies everyone wants such as Costco, Home Goods, Fresh market etc. make extensive surveys of areas, and all the urging from TOTV isn't going to sway them to move here if the numbers don't turn out to be profitable. Same is true by putting it in your yearly survey. They are very experienced at picking locations on their own.............well, with the exception of Target in Canada.

Wouldn't it also be quicker to get to Leesburg, in the event of an emergency, because of all the traffic on Morse Blvd north of CR466?

No disrespect taken. I don't know how you get great physicians or teaching hospitals to come to an area but I would like it a lot.

I feel the Morse bunch have done everything they can think to do to get better health care here.

I think that emergency facilities in and out of the hospital will always be burdened during high population times.

Really great health care is the ONLY reason that I am not completely happy here. I miss our fine doctors and facilities from Cincinnati.

And if I were of parenting age I would miss our fine schools too. Maybe that is holding back the doctors.

Gracie - my wife had a procedure done in 2000 in Cincinatti by a world renowned neurosurgeon (whom she trained with at Mass General Hospital in Boston). The Univ of Cincinatti Medical Center is world class. You may have even heard of Professor John Tew.

Let's say a large number of TV residents wanted Shands to develop a presence here. We would need to make our feelings known to the administration there. If they felt so inclined they would probably see how things went with an outpatient presence after talking with a large number of local PCPs. Do you remember my comment about how a competitor would favorably view the south side of TV?

Gracie, what happened?...... you are sounding like a New Yorker........................"Everything is better back home", "this is how we did it up north". I have many friends from Ohio and have always like people from the mid-west since they have respect for others and are always polite, but......
don't see them any more healthy or educated than the rest of us.
I guess 62 years in Florida has kept me from the real world of "up north".
