Port of Tampa

We're taking a cruise out of Tampa and I've heard that there is major construction happening which is causing huge traffic problems around Tampa. Has anyone experienced the above traffic problems and if so you can give me some advice on how to bypass the construction. Thanks

We were just through that area a couple of weeks ago. Take the Tollway due west from I-75 to the port district and you'll avoid it all. Do NOT go I-275 into Tampa, it's messy.
