We are considering installing a security system (probably Simplisafe) and I'm wondering if I need to get a permit from Sumter County? I know some police departments, in other parts of the country require one.

If I do need one, any idea who to call?

Thanks.

You don't have to obtain a permit to install a security system whether monitored or not.

Don't forget to check with Architectural Control Committee. Otherwise, you'll have the ACC police after you!

I'm hoping that you are being facetious. I can see no reason for the ARC to be involved with something that is not visible from outside the house. Now, if I decide to install 50 cal gun towers, that's another matter.

I did not get a permit.

But I also had issues in 2nd grade not coloring within the lines.

BTK is correct. No permit is required. I asked before having mine installed.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem. Still can't stay within the lines - just ask my grandson!

Thanks to both of you.

FYI - if a permit is required for any work, the people doing the work should obtain the permits, not you! If they say you have to do it, find another company who is willing to do their job.

I asked the company and then the county.
Trust but verify.

why on earth does anyone in this place want a security system?

why on earth does anyone in this place want a security system?

My wife moves slowly and uses a walker. She deserves as much warning as I can give her. I had the system installed after we had 5 breakins within a short distance.

Why on earth would anyone question what someone else wants, or might feel secure with in their own home?

Thanks. Most police departments require your alarm system to be registered with them but not get a permit. Call your local police department.

If you have to question why someone wants a security system then you must not keep up with the local news.

We have the SimpliSafe system and did not need a permit. No architectural review is needed as the installation is strictly on the inside and we did it ourselves in less than 30 minutes. Had it actually used last week with an unplanned entry and it worked beautifully. Highly recommend this low cost option for those of us who just want a little more security in our homes.

We have the same system and it works great.

The ARC always wants a say on outside improvements. In this case I'm guessing the BATF may also want some input. However, I'm in favor of a trial to see how they work.

I am very pleased with Simplisafe. It is a great system and the support is very customer focused.
