Last year, they didn't include a write-in section of suggestions/comments. I felt this was needed because some questions weren't asked.
The place is darn near perfect!
I agree.....Apple Store and Home Goods!!

We could use a COSTCO and a Trader Joes. Then the Villages would be "perfect."

I am not sorry I bought here but I am concerned that District's focus is misplaced. If you analyze the survey it amounts to "the state of the amenities". This is not a vacation destination its my home.

1. I would like to see staggered street signs. Impossible to see side streets, especially, at night.
2, A policy enforce to keep people from saving seats at the squares, for invisible people.
3. A Trader Joe's and Home Goods store would be nice. Last time I was at the Trader Joe's in Gainesville, I asked if TV, would ever get one and the cashier said, he was asked that at least 42 times a day.

I only buy fruit from trader joes, I really just don't get the appeal they have to people.....

on the plus side, we have 6 home goods stores within 15 miles of my home. Now that I get....big fan of Home goods

"their greed"? I think it is greedy to want to keep this beautiful place all to oneself and deny others a chance to live like a millionaire while paying middle-income prices for nice homes and property taxes, and only $140/month for all the costly amenities.

We stopped filling out the questionnaire - same stuff every year and nothing, NOTHING, changes as far as our wants are concerned. Stores will open here if they see a need. Costco, Trader Joe's, etc., wouldn't open within TV, and would need a major incentive to build on 441/27, 301, 44, etc. BTW, folks who say TV is becoming congested like NYC have absolutely no idea what NYC is like! Yes, it's getting busier here, especially in the newer areas. The Colony shopping area is a nightmare, and will get worse with the opening of TV at Fruitland Park. Having come from Queens, NY, this is paradise!

Wow....the OP did not know they were lighting the keg of powder that awakens all those who don't like it here.
I bet they do not go to any public attractions.
No ball games.
No Disney or other theme parks.
No concerts.
When they travel they must take roads that only go through little towns.
They obviously come from places where they don't have to wait for a table in a restaurant (both of them:jester:).
No Grand Canyon.
No cruises.
How terrible can all that be?
And if the same folks were here 11 years ago they would have said how can we live here there are no major stores or restaurants. And the population was 35,000.
I am sure the moabers and groaners are entitled to their likes and opinions. And it is obvious they moved to the wrong location.
Also remember you will find less crowded, very quiet typical retirement communities.........and not the life extending and enjoying life style.
The 98% of us that are happy as clams feel bad for some of you....for about 2.675 nano seconds:a20:

Some way to identify owners of golf carts
Speed bumps on roads and multi-modal pathways
Have an actual police dept in TV--I can't even tell you the last time I saw CW on our street.
I am sure it is not Legal,so don't need to tell me so, but it would be nice to have a policy or enforced rule that makes it wrong for anyone to live here in TV longer than ??6months unless their name is on the house deed-would eliminate moms, dads, grams, and grads from letting entitled kids come here to live.
have some way to actually monitor visitors to TV and surrounding areas from abusing ammentities, ie..keep people who live in the area from using out of town licenses, etc to get a pass. And yes, it happens a lot.
Stop building houses in TV, too many people, too many people on the roads, and on the MMpaths.
More Parking everywhere.

I rub my eyes. How in the world do you know facts about significant numbers of "entitled kids" living here with moms, dads and grands???????
We live in a courtyard neighborhood with 72 villas and none have "entitled kids" living with the parents or grandparents.
I HAVE, however, met 2 workers at Winn Dixie who are living here to help their fathers while their mothers were dying and then died, and they are living here to keep their lonely dads company!!!!!! And working as a cashier at W-D certainly is not "entitled".
My hair's on fire now, just thinking about the suggestion quoted above. Really creepy attitude.

If you really, truly, believe that The Villages are headed for implosion, the best thing you could do would be to sell now. The market is still good at present, so it makes good economic sense. Not trying to push you out, just suggesting the best move under your interpretation of the situation.
I really don't see greed in the Morse family. Are they wealthy - sure. But they seem to be continuing to work in the enterprise. A community like this could have been taken in the direction of exclusivity. While there are some fairly expensive homes in my neighborhood, there are also homes like ours that are middle class affordable. I don't feel, in the least, that I was overcharged for my new home. The developer has continued to provided new town squares, new rec centers, new executive golf courses, and new country clubs as the community has expanded. I don't foresee them abandoning such a long term commitment to The Villages.
No place is perfect for everyone. We've only been here for 3 months, so maybe I'm speaking prematurely, but we think it's a pretty fantastic hometown.

So well put. I think overall the developer and family have done a great job and deserve to reap the financial rewards of their vision and hard work. Is there room for improvement? Yes. But there's room for improvement everywhere.
I'm not even going to complain about the roundabouts anymore. We just got back from a place with few traffic rules and huge roundabouts. Thank God I wasn't driving. Someone would be dead.

Why in God's name does this topic always end up being about the Morse family and their vision and their right to a just reward.
The focus should be on what is best to solidify the quality of The Villages and what steps of a substantive nature should be implemented. A new store restaurant etc will locate here not because the survey suggests so but because the economic statistics calculated by said companies makes the investment worthwhile.
Again the survey is simply a state of the amenities. I don't live on a cruise ship I live in a town/city/village and I see great harm by certain policies being abused, ignored or not reviewed.
How do you define quality?

What bag? "The" bag? What's in that bag and why would I not want to hold it? In the unlikely event that the Morses "sell to someone else," do you think that "someone" will not want to sell the homes that have been built just like the Morses are doing? Frankly, I think I'm awake, but give me some more detail about what you think "the bag" contains.

Blyarbrough, stand next to me at Eisenhower rec center and tell me of the Greed. They could have purchased all of the stuff from a cheap furniture store but they had every couch and chair and cushion custom upholstered and the wall coverings are the finest and the chandeliers are copious. Anyone who has ever had anything custom framed knows it takes money and time to frame things. They took the offerings from the folks who offered them and placed them in lovely frames so that we all could share and honor our veterans. And that is just ONE rec center. They could have stuck that money in their pockets.
Their "greed" keeps thousands of people working and feeds their families while building a place unlike anywhere on this earth for older people to LIVE, not sit around and wait to die.
They keep working and they keep improving and I cannot thank them enough. My last years are so wonderful here.

The OP wants ideas for the survey. I would expect the survey has questions relating to amenities because those who are managing them are the people seeking input. Stores etc therefore would not be relevant.
I for one would like them to make sure every gate has a camera that records the plates with a recording and signs that worn visitors that the plates of all passing through are recorded. I would think that would help reduce break-ins and help law enforcement know who was in a village at the time of a break in.
The retention ponds could use fountains in the middle that could be solar powered so that the water moves and doesn't become stagnate and smelly during the times when the water is low as many on this forum have said they sometimes do.
I agree that the street signs at the same level are just plain stupid and need to be changed.
If you want a real police force instead of community watch the villages would have to be incorporated and become a town which is a whole other discussion.

Trudy.
The commercial section of The Villages use the requests for new business to try to leverage those new businesses to come here and rent or build to suit.
Sometimes the businesses we want listen. and sometimes they don't. Usually businesses looking to expand depend on demographers who are hopelessly behind the times on The Villages. It wouldn't hurt to barrage the business you want personally but it hasn't helped much with Homegoods and Chipotle that I want.

Street signs should not be parallel to each other. Makes them almost impossible to read when you are going by from one way. Better option is to drop the cross street sign down 4 inches so it can be read from either side and not be blocked by the other sign.

I agree about an Apple store. I'd also like to see a good music store. With the number of musicians it should be a no brainer.
But what I think that everyone should do is scream at the top of our lungs about people roping off chairs at the squares. That is an issue that, if not corrected is going to cause a big problem at some point.

Those who came, bought or moved and decided it was not for them that is their decisions and or opinions.
Those of us who love it here would like TV to consider the ideas of residents to improve this almost perfect place.
I totally disagree with the premise that some people who have bought in surrounding communities and enjoy all of the benefits of living in TV, is not based in fact. I have seen several people out and about in TV from other communities and still get the impression they want to have their cake and it eat it too!!!
There is nothing like being in TV!!!!!!! Being close by, is just rationalization justifying their buying decision. IMHO

I think that something that people who want Costco, or an Apple Store or different restaurants need to think about is the fact that those businesses have to want to come here.
The Villages can't just simply go to Costco and demand that they put a store here. I'm sure that The Villages wouldn't turn down any business that wants to rent space from them.

Signs at the squares that say "Chairs are available on a first come basis. Saved seats are not allowed"
There are at least 3 intersections that need to be resolved. Lights, bridges, tunnels, something before someone is killed or seriously injured. The street crossing at Baily Trail and Buena Vista coming north on Baily Trail. The crossing of Old CAmp near the Buena Vista traffic circle. The crossing of Morse just before the gate from 466. All three are very dangerous and get significantly backed up.
Costco.

I would like a new, improved radio station. One that doesnt just play the same old tired computer generated music 24 hours a day. Im sure many Villagers are old enough to remember the likes of Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Frankie Laine, Doris Day, The Four Aces, The Four Lads, and many more. Many of us didnt go through life listening to nothing but top 40. There was early 50s rhythm and blues, 50s rock and roll, 60s folk, progressive rock and album rock. WVLG sounds good at first, but it wears thin pretty quick.

I've been here for three years and I agree 100%. And as a Patriots fan, it's not often that I agree with a Colts fan.

I don't know if it's a waste of time filling out the survey, but I do agree that it's not a wish list for what stores or businesses we'd like to see here. I don't think that TV makes the decisions on which businesses open here. The businesses do. The fact that we are a long way from a major highway keeps a lot of major stores from settling here. Ocala, which is half the size of TV has many more major stores. If you look, many of the big chains are right off of I-75. Perhaps if the turnpike exit gets built near Brownwood we might see more of the major chains moving in, but again, that will not be the decision of The Villages.
Personally, I don't see a congestion problem where I am. True there is a bit more traffic in the snowbird months, but it's still not bad. I hear that the Colony shopping plaza is quite crowded, but I hardly ever go there so I wouldn't know. Perhaps as more retail opens up around Brownwood and in the new Fruitland Park area, the congestion at Colony might ease up.
I think that the things we need to focus on in the survey are things that TV actually has the power to do something about. Asking for Costco, Trader Joe's or your favorite restaurant from back home is not one of them. I'm sure that if Costco wanted to rent land from TV or buy a lot just outside, no one would stop them. Those stores are not here because the don't see us as a viable market for their products. 100,000 or 125,000 people might seem impressive to many of us, but people who make these decisions for these major corporations and looking for areas that millions of people have access to.
I think that the seat saving issue in the square is something that many of us are concerned about and something that the entertainment department light actually do something about if they think enough people are concerned about it.

How do they know that it issn't allowed if it's not posted somewhere? In fact, I've never seen a written rule about it. Have you?
The first thing that has to happen if we want to have this enforces is to have a rule, somewhere in writing that is enforceable. Until then, no one is doing anything wrong.
Yes, I know and you know that it's wrong, but no authority is going to get involved without some kind of written rule to back them up. You can yell, "common sense' all you want, but no one can enforce common sense.
Having sings posted would stop some of these people in their tracks and give the entertainment department the backing that they need to enforce a rule.

Excellent post! Why would people who don't live here comment on a Villages homeowner survey? Usually their posts are all negative so who wants to hear them anyway. Silly really that they post here. Reminds me of my company's forum board where everyone posts anonymously and it is a fun and wild forum. But for some reason people who have left the company or have never been an employee come on and post a ton of negative comments. It it is a forum run by a private company for many separate corporations in our industry so you can't restrict members, but most of the employees on the board get very testy about people commenting negatively about their company. If you ask for improvements from owners in the Villages why open it up to outsiders? If that is what they wanted they would have mailed the questionnaire to the entire country. I find it strange that there are so many people on this forum who don't live here. Thousands of posts and they don't like the place?

Didn't know that was postulating why certain questions would be on the survey.

Doc - with all due respect, I have no interest in going electric with my carts or cars. I use diesel and get more than 35 mpg with both. If it wasn't for the EPA, I'd get 50 mpg on my newer car, like it's German cousin.
And It is unrealistic to believe that I could get from TV to Boston, much less Maine, in an electric auto without blowing up the car and being declared insane.
