View Full Version : Selma, Alabama

Today, March 7, marks the anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" in Selma. Civil rights marchers were beaten, trampled and tear gassed by police. The marchers were walking to Selma to end the deprivation of blacks to vote. This was only 50 years ago!

President Obama will be in Alabama to show how America has changed to now have a black President in that relativity short time.

If the Republicans now want to market themselves as a party of inclusion, WHY are they not having one of the House or Senate leaders standing next to the President for this occasion?

Why hasn't the president or any democrats addressed the huge problem of black on black violence and crime? Why did the president and his black attorney general visit Ferguson and whip up racial tension around a single incident of a white police officer being attacked by a black robber?

Why not, from this day forward, treat everyone with true color-blindness? Why stoke the racial divisions? The "agenda" of attempting to portray the republican party as racist is well known, tiresome and untrue. <yawn>

If untrue, as you state, please list all the republicans who will attend the 50th anniversary ceremonies today in Selma. I'll help you out. There was a last minute addition late yesterday when Congressman Kevin McCarthy announced he would attend.

Speaker Boehner and Leader McConnell are not attending because of scheduling conflicts. Really? They knew this date was coming for the past 50 years.

Zero republicans attended the 50th anniversary of the Martin Luther King "I have a dream" speech last year on the mall in Washington, when the president spoke. It's almost like they are all reading out of the same play book on 'How to never, ever win a national election ever again'.

Why did your supreme leader fail to attend the huge Paris rally against Islamic terrorists?

Here you go...Google is a wonderful tool!

"Almost a quarter of the U.S. Congress, along with President George W. Bush and President Obama, will be in Selma, Ala., Saturday for the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march that led to the 1965 voting rights act.

At a time of polarized politics in Washington, this celebration is a moment of political unity. It brings people together; it crosses racial and political lines, as evidenced by the presence of President Bush and more than 20 Republican members of Congress."

Included in 'that almost a quarter of the US Congress', includes exactly one republican, Kevin McCarthy. Kudos to George W Bush and his wife for attending. There are so few public events that he is invited.

"Obama's Selma remarks are expected to touch on the issue of voting rights. Obama also addressed the issue in his State of the Union address. His administration has challenged Southern states that have imposed new voting requirements, including showing picture identification before being allowed to vote..."

Gasp! The injustice of proving your eligibility to vote before voting!

It's the AGENDA, Stupid.

Race matters NOTHING to the caucasians who voted for Obama and did it twice. Without the caucasian vote, we would not have a black president.

Get over it!!

Take responsibility for the AGENDA that facilitates the high illegitimacy rate of blacks, at 75-80%, and the agenda that facilitates joblessness and government dependency.

I wonder if Obama mentioned anyof the info in this article in his speech - or if he ever will!
Who’s Really Responsible for the Civil Rights Act? | TheBlaze.com (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/04/10/whos-really-responsible-for-the-civil-rights-act/)

I was enlightened by these two paragraphs:
"The Voting Rights Act of 1965, passed along similar partisan margins, with 61 Democratic “no” votes in the House and 24 Republicans voting against the bill, which passed 333-85. In the Senate, the measure passed with the support of 94 percent of the Republican caucus and 73 percent of the Democratic caucus.

“'The degree of Republican support for the two bills actually exceeded the degree of Democratic support, and it’s also fair to say that Republicans took leading roles in both measures, even though they had far fewer seats, and thus less power, at the time,” PolitiFact said in a 2010 analysis of the GOP role in civil rights.'"

No need to do that. Republicans have nailed one foot to the ground and just walk around in circles instead of being progressive and moving forward.

Calling me a 'racist' for stating a fact (that caucasian voters voted for Obama and he wouldn't have won without them, and people voted against him because of AGENDA, not race) is just VILE.

To answer your question, I doubt that the President would have allowed that to happen (standing next to him as you suggest that is), being the great divider that he is.

President Obama and the white vote? No problem. - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/11/08/president-obama-and-the-white-vote-no-proble)

President Obama lost the white vote to Mitt Romney by 20 percentage points in the 2012 election, but it hardly mattered because the white vote has become less significant. Read the charts at the bottom of this article.

Dear Guest calling you a racist is what such people actually believe is an argument. Post#22 hit it finally. Guess what party had the majority slave owners? guess what party had a president that liberated slaves? Guess which party fought against civil rights blocked entrances to schools, etc?

Bill Buckley once explained the difference between a liberal and a conservative with an illustration of a drowning man. He said in hopes of saving the man a conservative would throw the life preserver half way out so the man would swim toward the shore and then they could haul him in. Whereas a liberal would thrown the preserver over his head have him swim out further in order to attempt to save his life.

The Civil Rights Act and Voting rights Act were a good thing but leave it to liberals to go over board and we move from equal opportunity to guaranteed equal results and it has gotten so out of hand that even blacks like Thomas Sowell, Jason Riley and Justice Clarence Thomas preach that the liberals are enslaving blacks with all their kindness entitlements, etc. Some universities are now doing away with racial quotas, preferences that have adversely affected all other races and nationalities except blacks.

My cousin was a straight A student scholastic honors and had a baseball scholarship and interviewed with Harvard. Before he even began he was told that because he wasn't black and if he wasn't gay not to even bother. Only in America

According to this post, Harvard University only graduates blacks and gays. All other need not apply. Does anybody know if this is true? What year did this event involving the cousin take place?

I sincerely doubt that Harvard had an affirmative action policy for gays. Let's see some proof of that statement from a Harvard site (from the years the poster's cousin was applying.)

Of these factoids are attributed to he Republican Party. Just shows how things can change. For the record none are or will be attributed to your beloved tea party except the ability to line your pockets and just say no!

We the people have you all figured out!
