I tried to contact a friend who has raced pigeons, but he won't be home until tonight. I gave his wife your number and he'll call you. Thanks for your concern.

I would call a local vet and the Humane Society to ask about what the two bands are, especially if the bird has no food or water, and explain its behavior.
I don't know of one, but there must be a vet or organization who is familiar with birds.
What does this pigeon do if you try to approach?

Dr. Valdez at Park Heights Animal Hospital (352) 326-9116 (Fruitland Park, 441 across from Bill Bryan Dodge) is an avian vet.

I found an exhausted racing pigeon. I simply read the band on his leg and found his owner online. You can trace them through various pigeon organizations.

Guy from pigeon club says feed and water and hopefully it will regain strength. There are pigeon races going on this time year and owners pefer not to self identify so do not advertise lost birds.

How about that? I learned something new today! Passenger pigeons are extinct (Since 1914). Carrier pigeons are a different type of bird and are not extinct.

Warren I read an article that explained carrier pigeons were once so plentiful that they blackened the sky. but then hunters killing them by the hundreds daily caused them to disappear and th last one died in 1919 (as I recollect). Experts wanted to see if they could clone the last one. so what this resident has in his/her back yard is not the same carrier pigeons described in this article or is it?. At least that is what I gathered from this article and I read it more than once because I was so fascinated by he fact that the carrier pigeon population was so vast at one time. Perhaps an avian expert could chime in here
