You could try Lowe's or Home Depot or a local locksmith to make you a copy. If that doesn't work, go to Jane's Mailbox (rental office in Lake Sumter Landing). If they have an extra key, I'm sure they would sell it to you. I don't know if they would make a duplicate key for you. Otherwise, they would re-key it and then you could buy 3 keys (no more are allowed, it seems).

As Indy Guy said, your mail box key probably has DO NOT DUPLICATE stamped on it. You have to go to wherever you got the original keys to get a duplicate.
Ask the mail person at the mail stop how to go about getting a duplicate key.

You have to go through the USPS to get their duplicates. It is federal offense to duplicate those keys. The Post Office likes to keep tight control over their keys.

You cannot buy blanks for these keys as it is a federal offense ot duplicate them ......it must be done through the post dept.....
I bought an extra one at Jane's Outpost in LSL. I think it is $6. They get it from Washington DC and it takes several weeks.

Hello everyone. Common sense here. Follow me. You own a Ford? The Ford manual tells you, " ...only get Ford parts". You own a Dell PC? Dell manuals tell you, "....only get Dell parts". and so on. Of course Uncle Sam wants you to only get over-priced and hard to get keys from him. Don't forget, this is the same guy who buys toilet seats and hammers at $300 a pop. And don't believe the mattress police either. You know, the ones who come around to make sure you didn't remove the little note on your mattress. "Do not remove under penalty of law", or something like that.
We used to live in Orlando and when we had our business, we needed to get a PO Box. Well, my wife lost her key and the USPS wanted our second born plus some amount I could have used to put a room addition on our house for a replacement key. And they must be made in Hong Kong as it would have taken forever to get it to us. Ahhhhh, governmental red tape.
Fortunately, I knew a guy who had a freind who was a locksmith. 15 minutes later and a couple of bucks lighter we had our second key again. The terrorists never landed and the world didn't come to a screeching halt.
End of story.

Jane's Outpost is closed. YOu have to go to lady Lady post office for additional mail box keys in the villages.

If the post office has more keys on hand they will sell them to you. If not they can order more keys for that lock. Otherwise to change lock there is a fee.

It seems to me it's also a Federal offense to tear the tag off a mattress. So who really cares about either one? Kinda like prohibition and bringing your own food and drink to a sporting event. Uncle Sam dosen't get his cut, he dosen't want yo to do it.

The postal agent who was dispensing mail at Chatham yesterday said that Janes Outpost in Sumter Landing has gone out of business. One now has to go to the Lady Lake (32162) main post office on highway 25 for service. To get there from 441 at the stop light by Shell gas station and near the branch post office - go east about a mile and a half to the stop light at CR 25. Go to the right (south) about a quarter mile.
On the subject of getting a copy made at a lock smith - your chances are slim & none. First off, I have not found one that has a blank. Secondly, the key says don't duplicate so if you do find one and expect to turn it in when selling your home - lots of luck because it will be obvious that it was not an original.
I lost one of our keys over the summer. Went to Janes in Sept and they sold to me and installed for me (within 3 days) a new lock which came with three keys. To buy a spare key it would have been about half the price and the wait would have been about a week or more.

You can also get to the Lady Lake Post Office by staying on 441 heading south past Home Depot and Sam's and make a left at the stop light (in front of Kohl's). Go past the Lady Lake City Hall and make a left into the Post Office parking lot. It is much shorter than going East to Hwy 25 from the Shell Sta across the street from Perkins and then left on 25 down a half a mile.

Go re-read that mattress tag. It is illegal to remove it unless done by the consumer - i.e. you...

Upon returning from summer retreat in MA, couldn't find our mailbox key so went to Jane's Outpost and paid $15 for a new lock and three new keys (no way to just have more keys cut by them).
One month later, we call to question whereabouts of our new lock/keys and find that Jane's is out of business, go to Lady Lake PO. Went to LL PO and they installed the new lock a week later and handed us two of the three keys and then left the old lock and third new key in our PO box.
Frustrating? Yes....Hey, we're retired....don't sweat the small stuff is our motto. All is well FINALLY.
