Lake Sumter?
The County?
The Villages?
The Morse Family?
Is it considered a "Navigable Waterway" for Coast Guard authority ?
Is there any law enforcement on the Lake?

THAT is a very good question. I always point out to our guests just visiting here that we have a lighthouse that guides all Ocean Going Ships.:D

It isn't navigable and isn't directly connected to a navigable body of water. It is also entirely inside a single state. Coast Guard would have jurisdiction for pollution ("waters of the United States") but not for boating enforcement. No. they don't have a boat or cutter assigned to Lake Sumter (or whatever the heck it really is).

Lake Sumter is a retention pond - there is only two lakes in the villages, Lake Miona and one other that I can't remember

I'm voting for Coast Guard have nothing at all to do with it and EPA being the govt agency having an interest in pollution.

I swear I heard a rumor that her majesty Queen Elizabeth was sailing in on the QE2 and she would run the CDD NORTH of 466. She was going to buy it from the IRS and the POA.
And that the Royal Navy with Prince Harry was going to head up the CDD south of 466.
And Taylor Swift was going to run the area south of 466A where all the YOUNG people live.

many of the bodies of water that look like lakes are manmade. Doesn't deter the alligators from using them
Nearly all the cutesie signage in the squares is fake.
The decorations in most of the rec centers are repro, not old (Except Eisenhower)
The lovely flowers are not fake - but they are replaced the minute they begin to fade.
Most of the residents are not fake happy - they really are happy

What is the purpose of the original post? Is the lake sinking and the question is who has to pay to fix it? Did some cut down some trees to improve their view? Or did they ask a question just to see what they could stir up?

Reading Bob and Bev for some time, I am guessing that they meant it as a light hearted jest.
At least that is how I took it.
And as for the fake stuff. I call it whimsical and fantasy in the most enjoyable way. Katie Belle was not an historical figure. Spanish Springs was meant to look like an old Spanish Town and Lake Sumter was meant to look like an American town from yesteryear and Brownwood is supposed to be a tribute to the Brownwood store in Michigan, still run by Gary Morse's sister who makes fresh donuts daily.
It's all good.

lol......A year ago I had a gathering for TOTV'rs around Christmas time and some very nice person who had spent quite a bit of time at Brownwood growing up, came to the get together just to tell me that the Morse family were very nice folks as I had suspected and recently she sent me a clipping from the local Brownwood, Michigan paper showing. Mar making her donuts.
I strongly suspect, that the Morse family are a decent bunch of nice folks.

When I say fake I mean like Disney, its there to make you feel good. Dont mean anything bad. Look at the day markers in the lake ( channel markers) they are not needed but to some one coming from a coastal area it makes them feel good like being back from where they came from. Yes I live here, 10 years now.

BTW, I was told that Lake Sumter is indeed a retention pond and was built to drain some area so that homes and other properties could be built.

Of course, if you really want a Coast Guard cutter on Lake Sumter, GSA is selling a couple of decommissioned 110 foot Island class patrol boats. There are also a number of 41 and 47 foot former Coast Guard boats up for sale by private firms.

Drainage facilities are rarely all natural. Even if there is a large natural water body adjacent to a development, runoff must be retained and treated to meet water quality requirements before it can be discharged into public waters. This is the norm for any development. Only the very smallest may be exempt or not have a need to provide ponds or other retention/treatment facilities to provide for runoff from the site.
There are very specific permitting requirements which must be met also. Just digging a hole is not even close to enough. Wetlands and other habitat areas are to be avoided, but if there are what development codes deem to be unavoidable impacts, compensation must be provided, usually in amounts more than the impacts they are compensating for. Many of the ponds, wetlands and other habitat areas in TV fall into this category...man-made facilities created as compensation for impacts in other areas of TV.

I see Dragon boats on the lake.
I see sail boats on the lake.
I see a boat launching ramp next to the hotel.
I DON'T see any "No Trespassing" signs at the lake.
If I wanted to launch my canoe or kayak on the lake, who would I contact for permission. What about jet skis, row boats with outboard motors, etc.?
I imagine law enforcement on the lake would come under the jurisdiction on the FWC, or the Sumter County Sheriff.

I found it, I think. From BV take left on Rainy Trail [aka 472]. Make the next left at 115. If that has another name, it's not on google maps. I'll check it out. Is that considered in The Villages?

That is it .... their is a sign on RT at the entrance to Lk Miona Park. Be aware that their is no MMP or Diamond lane on RT leading to the park.
If you are standing on the dock looking at the lake ..... their are Premier TV neighborhoods both to your right & left. The one you can see on your left is the one were the big oaks were cut down without permission that is costing TV residents south of 466 major $$$$$$$ to mitigate.

The " Charlestown Chiefs " from the Federal League . They are playing out their final season in PA.
In fact they just made the final round of the playoffs and are facing the Syracuse Bulldogs !
Unfortunately the Bulldogs have called up several questionable players from " The Iron League " . This includes Tim " The Hook " Mc Craken , Clarence " Screaming Buffalo" Swamptown , and the previously banned for life " Ogie " Ogilthorpe ". So it`s going to be a tough series for The Chiefs who have several injured players .
Today`s Charlestown News features an article by long time sportswriter Dickie Dunn that the Chiefs will be moving to Florida after this season . According to Dunn the team will be relocating very close to a very large retirement community in Central Florida . This news from such a credible source has of course led to speculation that the Chiefs will be moving close to the Villages .

I was under the impression that any body of water adjacent to or connecting to a public right of way could be accessed and used legally. Apparently I'm wrong or was just intimidated. A bud and I put my canoe on the lake using the hotel boat ramp, we made it down to Cody's when the "Crusise boat" personnel asked to see our permit and if we did not have one we were trespassing and must leave. We left and then I went to the Rec center and asked for a permit. Was told to forget it as no permits were being given out. It would be a beautifully canoe or kayak facility that many of us could enjoy. Too bad many of the post on this subject missed the objective of the original post.
