Is there still time to see manatees in the Crystal River area? I had read that the Three Sisters Spring was closed by the state for viewing, and I'm not sure why.

With the weather getting warmer, have the manatees moved to colder water, or is there still time to see them...and where?

Kitty's link to info says you can see them year-round.

I was thinking of taking my niece there. But I wonder... are the manatees captive? I heard that some wildlife group is protesting the swimming with the manatees at Crystal River. If there are any contained manatees there, for purposes other than rehabilitation, my niece would not be a happy camper, and I would not take her there.

We saw nearly 300 at Blue Springs in December. No swimming allowed..

Have been to Homossasa Park before and seen the captured manatees. Promised a neighbor we'd go for a ride and see these gentle creatures.

Thanks for your advice and we're off to see manatees!
