Just spent 2 weeks at tv (visiting my own home) Golfed 3 times day and of course the afternoons were hot, My friend and I went to Sand Hill and she was told she needed to go home to change her shirt to a collared shirt. She has on a plain pale yellow shirt (crew neck) and short sleeves and was told it was a TEE SHIRT. Went home to change her shirt and when we got back another lady was sitting in a golf cart with her husband and the starter said nothing to her...she was wearing the same style shirt only in white, another couple pulled up again another plain white shirt, and they were allowed to golf with these shirts. My friend was upset. We dont mind rules but they should be the same for everyone, ..the starter;s name was Lee Zenkowski and to be perfectly honest..his problem was that he was not MAN ENOUGH to go over to another man and tell him "take your wife home to change her shirt"..but two women sitting in a golf car..no problem!
We asked to speak to his supervisor who was called, and got to the course while we were on hole #3..his theory was that the starter determined it to be a tee shirt and so be it..
We were so upset that we left "have a nice day in the Villages"....Another gentlemen told me same thing happened to his wife and she put on a jacket that was in their cart and it was 90 degrees.
Point is rules should be the same for everyone and although most of our starters and Ambassadors are really wonderful friendly and capable people..there is one bad apple in the bunch and his supervisor did nothing to remedy the situation...too bad...
So ladies. if you run into this guy it would be best to wear a collared shirt in case he determnes any other shirt to be a TEE SHIRT...

I am very used to those rules and they have been applied at all of the courses we have belonged too. I absolutely agree that they should be enforced to everyone. I am glad that we don't have to see men with beer bellys naked to the waist, which just might happen if we didn't have a dress code.
I am sorry about your situation and I can only imagine how frustrated and angry you felt. I hope it is an exception.

I know the golf courses are not consistent and I always wear a collared shirt - only for that reason. My friend wears a decorative "tee-shirt" with a golf design and she has never had a problem. It would be just my luck to wear one and run into trouble. I absolutely hate inconsistency - these starters need to be informed once and for all. Your situation is not uncommon.

Dont have problem with rules and when I attended the golf academy was told it wasnt necessary to wear collar shirt but that you could wear plain shirt with no writing or logo and you midrif should not be exposed and no tant tops etc, the prolem is it ways no tee shirts and that is the issue..what is a tee shirt? If you are wearing a plain (nice shirt) with no collar..why can this man determine it to be a TEE SHIRT...
And yes..he is the exception to the rule...Most of our starters are so nice..I've never met one like him before....Thanks for listening....

Never have I heard of women needing a collar!!! At El Santiago/El Diablo they have a picture showing what is OK and what is not. Mainly no showing middrift and no big Logos on the shirt. Oh and no string straps. Sorry you ran into a butthead. You need to report the person if the shirt was an acceptable one.

From the TV Golf website - Hope this isn't considered copyright material:
Dress Code for Women
• Shirt or blouse may be without a collar but should not
expose stomach and must have straps at least 2-inches wide.
• No T-shirts or tank tops.
• Shorts or skirts must cover the majority of the thigh.
• No overalls, tennis skirts, cut-offs or biking shorts.
• Denim pants are allowed.

Guess that rules out naked golf.

For some reason you have to do a copy and paste the link into a browser to get the link to work. I have not figured out the problem yet.

Sorry you had that bad experience. I'm a lady golfer and I wear tops that don't have a collar and I guess could be construed as a Tee Shirt but no one has ever said anything. I see LOTS of them on the courses. I guess we need to know what the definition of a TEE SHIRT is??? Something to "tee off" with ... right???? ;D OK, you were dressed perfectly then!!! :welcome: to Florida's Friendliest Hometown!!!

Really, its pretty difficult to define a tee shirt, since many shirts today are made of stretchy cotton.

Not only stretchy cotton, but many are made with the new water wicking material with different colors and designs. These shirts are very expensive. Should these shirts be considered Tee Shirts?

As mentioned previously please try www.golfthevillages.com; click on the header "golfing in the villages"; next "good golf guide"; then "how to dress". It even comes complete with pictures. :)
All championship courses have copies of this guide which has considerable info regarding etiquette, dress, cart use, etc. Hope this helps.......
I feel your pain with regards to inconsistent interpretation of the dress code rules. Seems to me a "TEE" shirt would be appropiate on the golf course. By the way what is the difference between a mock turtle and a tee shirt?

I agree the 'tee' debate can be tough. But as far as the men goes - just wear a collar. It really is that simple. I've had disagreements with starters (not at TV) about the Tiger woods type mock collar and you know what - it's just not worth it. I always keep a collared shirt and golf pants in my car at ALL times. I just consider it part of my golf preparedness. You never know who will call with an open tee time!

maybe its me but i do see a difference in the starters attitude - not all of the starters ( i don't know about the exec courses) but some have a really superiority attitude - maybe its the longer hours in the summer - they should remember they are "starter" and not in "charge of all fazes of operation"

I would suggest that you make a copy of the rules (that show no collar is necessary, etc.) and keep it in your golf cart. When an a.....hole addresses it with you, show him/her the rules. I feel your pain, especially in this hot, Florida weather. Don't let one jerk make you mad...consider the source. Happy golfing !

Had the rule book in our hands clearly states collared shirts not necessary but no "t shirts"...The problem is what defines a T shirt..Thanks everyone for your kindness and encouragement and again I have no problem with rules as long as they apply to everyone..everytime...No exceptions for "special people".
I wonder what happens when it gets cool and we need to layer our clothes...do I wear my collared shirt over my jacket or sweater..

I wear a sweat shirt over my collared shirt in the winter and occasionally I am asked to show them the collared shirt. I refuse to put the collar outside the sweat shirt and look like a preppy.

My solution is to read the info, do the best you can to comply and ignore those who bend/ignore the same because they feel they are "special". Why let others control your life/mood? Relax, enjoy and let those few "special" people spend their time looking over their shoulder for the "rules police". :)

My neighbor's wife doesn't golf but like's to ride along. She must also wear a collared shirt.

If I think my wife's shirt is "iffy", we bring a collared shirt for her to change into.

I filled a foresome today at Glenview. Both of the ladies had on sleeveless blouses that looked exactly like mens sleeveless athletic tees. I could never dresswear my athletic t-shirts.

First let me say that I should be living FT in TV in Oct. and plan to play golf. This topic will be intersting for me ! I have mostly moisture wicking shirts , plain colors that I wear all year. Cotton T-shirts are hotter than hell and in 60 degrees or warmer, I wear these and even all winter when inside up here in New England. I will be drenched in sweat and I will look like I just stepped out out of a shower in no time if I cannot wear these moisture wicking collarless shirts. Great shirts from LL Bean.
time will tell! :dontknow:
