Happy BD, Canada.

I see that The Love Guru aside, Canada gave us Mike Myers among many other celebrities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Myers_(actor)

Just saw The Love Guru at the Rialto this morning and can understand why I was the ONLY person in that theater watching it. >:(

I hate Canada's birthday. Normally such a quiet, dignified country, on her birthday Canada puts Newfoundland on her head, tries to drink Baffin Bay dry, and acts more like Kiwis than respectable Loons. At least tomorrow they'll be back to what we accept as normal the rest of the year and we'll get to go another 365 days without even thinking about Yukon Jack.

To our great neighbor in the north: May the celebration of your birthday be as joyful and large as you are.

To our Canadian friends and neighbors: Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for putting up with this loud country beneath you and being willing to fight with us so many times.

Best wishes.

English:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Français:

Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Thanks so much to those who posted for noticing that it is Canada Day! Special thanks to Ronda, a very thoughtful person. (Canadians tend to be quiet and reserved so we never think anyone notices our holidays)! Of course there'll be lots of fireworks and celebrating tonight which will encourage riotous behavior in our otherwise staid residents.

Since I'm now one-half American (or at least my Courtyard Villa is), I guess I can also celebrate your Independence day which is fast approaching on July 4. I appreciate the special relationship that Canada has with the US. Our troops are fighting alongside yours in this cruel war. And we know that the USA will always be there to protect us if we should ever need them. lovehorse

Happy Birthday Canada. Our neighbour to the North is very special, as are all our new Canadian friends. Canada and the USA will always be firm friends and stand together in good times and bad. And we are all the better for it.

Hey, Barefoot,

I've been among those quiet and reserved Canadians on Canada Day.

What I saw in Canada had to stay in Canada.

Tony, we pretend to be staid and boring, but we can get a little frisky at times! ;)

Thanks Donna. We both miss TV! :( But we're having our "Canadian" TOTV luncheon next week, so we'll be able to console each other. :beer3:

Hello Canada and Happy Belated Birthday.

You are wonderful neighbors, whether on the big map or right next door.

When I saw this on your real birthday, I procrastinated sending greetings because I wanted to find an old thread that is on here where there is a discussion of "O Canada."

In the recent thread about procrastination, I put taking care of this on my list of things to attend to. So I will dive into the archives now and see if I can find that. It is a foggy memory, but I will go work on it.

So anyway, Happy B'day (late) and I hope you are still celebrating. We like you and we are glad you like us, too.
