Unfortunately may be true. Some one will ruin it for everyone else and the gator will meet an unfortunate demise thanks to careless people.:ohdear:

so true....a fed gator is a dead gator

I told people to stop feeding a big gator at Sumter because it was against the law and bad news for the gator. You would have thought I had insulted the one guy's mother since he responded with a nasty comment (right in front of his kids)

People do no like to be told what to do or not to do by anyone other than authority. People view the admonisher as the Self-Appointed (Fill in the appropriate word) Police. You're not going to change that person's behavior, and you will usually get the response you got. Public education works better, IMO.

I was trying to educate the morons.......Dad told me if I loved the gator so much I should take a flying leap in with him. You are right about me being wrong about saying something because you can't fix stupid.

Joldnol, good for you. Sometimes it takes a Village to educate a moron.
Some people are unaware that feeding gators is often a death sentence for the animals.
If public education means public signs, there are signs at Lake Sumter asking people to not feed gators.
People ignore the signs and feed the gators anyway. Sigh.

That is why I'm not in favor of signs prohibiting saving chairs at The Squares.
Whoops, that's a different thread!

Why would anyone want him gone? All it's going to take is ONE idiot (and all of you probably at least know one) that will say something about it needs to be removed or try to get a selfie with the gator or thinks it's hungry and start feeding it - do something/everything idiotic - and there goes the gator. We had a 5 footer that lived on the Acadian Hills Country Club that we belonged to in Lafayette, LA back in the early 2000's. No one messed with it and it never bothered anyone. The gator at Brownwood is in his natural (albeit man-made) habitat. For those of you that have this undesirable urge to bother everything that is not yours that you think you must, grow up, act like a mature adult and leave the gator alone for the rest of us to enjoy catching a glimpse of. PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE, simple as that.

The only time I've heard of anyone disturbing a gator on the courses or by the retention ponds is when a Westie almost became a snack and the owner fought the gator for his dog. Once the gator reaches a certain size, it is removed and killed, but most do fine until that point, even the one at LSL, which is fed by humans.

Yea, that's right. SOME PEOPLE can't leave well enough alone. :( Leave it alone in it's environment and it will leave you alone. My wife saw two last week on Cane Garden and took a long distance pic of them; reminded her of our time in Louisiana. Oops! Shouldn't have said anything about those two; the "meddlesomes" will probably try to get rid of them.

The gator in Brownwood is entitled to be there and should live out his life where he is. Therefore his name should be "ENTITLED".
