We are moving into Polo Ridge, Villa Berea this week. We would like to have a reliable landscaper to cut the lawn, trim the bushes, edge and weed. Other posts are rather old. Can someone recommend a great landscaper who is reliable?

We use Village Mowers. On most days you should be able to stand in your yard and see a half dozen yard guys. We have usually piggybacked on a neighbors person if they were doing a good job.

Do your homework. I very highly recommend Village Palms, on 466 just W of Rolling Acres RD. They're terrific!
I've hired both Village Palms and Jamie's Landscaping. There are differences between the two. Village Palms (VP) is totally professional. You'll see the digital landscape design they craft for you after they visit your property. take photos and meet with you to discuss your preferences. They'll also give you a written estimate with the design. They'll send you the design in PDF via email. You'll be able to look at it and think about it at your home and at your leisure. Their prices for plants and planting them are competitive. Before installation (within reasonable timeframes), you may change the plan and/or plants. They water-in plants, when they plant them. They place the wrap on the inside of all hardscape (stacked stone/block), and they make sure you're happy. You must pay a downpayment for the job when you sign the contract.
Jamie's is not as sophisticated as VP. Jamie's doesn't give you a hardcopy or soft copy of the landscape design. You must trust the verbal description Jamie gives you and that he later communicates to his foreman. Their prices are competitive with other landscapers. When Jamie's initially planted many of the small plants (shrubs and grasses), they didn't water-in the plants or plant them deep enough to cover all the roots. However, they did come back, even though I'd paid the one-time and final payment, to replant and water-in the plants. Jamie's promised plants I wanted that they later learned they couldn't provide. So, why promise them? (One of the reasons, I had hired Jamie was because he said he could get the plants, and I told him so during our pre-contract discussions.) BTW, the two plants I wanted are viable in central and north Florida, and perhaps south Florida, too. One of them is Florida's State wildflower.
A plus for Jamie's is that you pay only after the job is done--you do not pay an up-front, down payment. As with any contract, make sure your contract details everything you want. You won't be able to tell if everything is the way you thought it would be (or as promised) unless you're around during the landscaping. This is true for all contractors. Make sure you get answers to any questions as work is progressing. We're not experts, even though we may have experience. As Jamie's says, before you make the payment, make sure you're happy with everything and everything is as promised and according to your contract.
After reading my ToTV comments, Jamie's recently returned in April 2015 to trim the Sylvester palm tree trunks of the palms they'd planted in March 2014 and, at that time, had promised to trim in late summer or fall of 2014. Other issues, I or another landscaper resolved. Therefore, I've clarified and modified the above comments to show Jamies keeps its promises.

For lawn cutting and shrub trimming, I use D&J Bakers Lawn Services. They're good.
For home and lawn termite pest control and lawn and shrub and tree fertilization services, I use Superior Services of Florida, 1-800-Pest-Control. They're terrific with service and prices are very competitive. I very highly recommend them.

Agree 100% re D&J bakers. However I use Deans for the rest noted above.

Looking for a landscaper. I did an extensive search and got quotes from 5 different companies. I will tell you that my job was just completed and you would not believe the before and after results.
We used Jamie's landscaping and it was the best decision possible.
Look at the results. 2566 Jericho Way in Village of Hemingway was transformed into the show case of landscaping. We have a corner lot and if you want to see the before and after pictures just stop by and I would be glad to show you.
Jamie's crew outdid themselves. The palms he brought were fantastic and the added color was great. We had stacked wall and cap as well as curbing. Went all around the house on a corner lot and it looks unbelievable.
The cost was another major surprise. He was competitive upfront and did not ask for any extra even though the problem encountered added cost to the job and the design was improved with no additional cost. Stop by and I can tell you who I had bid and compared with Jamie.
We could not be happier with the completed job:bigbow:

Jamie also did not give us a detailed on paper layout but he did live up to what we wanted. Others may have fancy drawings and show stuff on paper but what counts is finished work. Jamie provided that plus some at our home at 2566 Jericho Way. Just drive by and look for yourself. Some of the nicest palms you will ever see.

Jamie's just completed a major landscaping job for us and we couldn't be happier. He delivered on everything he said he would. His crew is courteous, easy to converse with, very professional and completely cleaned up at the end of every day. I would strongly recommend you consider Jamie's for any landscaping projects.

We are in our first year with Fertigator, so far so good. The yard looks great and the weekly mowing crew really pays attention to detail. The BEST advice you can get is....DO NOT pay in advance for any services! They are many outfits to choose from and way too many of us have been burned by pre paying a year long package and then having them refuse to honor the agreement. (see Stellar/Service Smart threads) Talk to your neighbors and see who they have used, good and bad.
