When my husband and I move to TV we would be interested in taking dance lessons. I've never had any and my husband hasn't had any since he was a kid! Any suggestions?

Yes.......purchase steel-toed shoes. ;D Seriously, though, I would like to take line dance lessons when I arrive IN THE NEAR FUTURE as a resident. I know that there are free line dance lessons given and I wouldn't be surprised if ballroom dancers provided some instruction. Good luck and have fun.

It is my understanding, that the free line dance lessons offered at the Recreation centers are definitely a step or two above beginners. However the line dance lessons offered at the Villages Lifelong learning college starts out slowly with the basics. but they are not free.

Or you can just jump out on the dance floor in the square and try to keep up! :hot:

Troubletog, when you get here just check the Thursday Rec. schedule, and also the Villages Lifelong Learning College schedule, and you'll find lots of dance lessons to choose from. There are dance teachers here who have spent their professional lives teaching dancing in studios up North, and now they're here doing a really great job teaching Villagers to dance.

You'll have a great time, so come on down!

If you want couples classes there are beginner Swing and Cha Cha classes offered at LaHacienda regional center and a few other types of dances at other centers. Many are taking a break for the summer but will be back teaching by Sept. Check out the Weekly rec center news. it list all the classes. They are for beginners and are free. The College of learning also teaches several levels of couples dance classes

I'm looking forward to learning The Shag when we move down. We'll also try to get in with an existing dance group (2 step maybe?) to teach Cajun dancing. This is a great first step for learning to parter. The steps are simple and the music is fun (unless you reallllly hate accordion - but maybe you've never heard accordion like this)! We almost gave up after taking ballroom dancing and then we found Cajun and I have a happy dancing husband (but mostly just to Cajun). It works for almost everything. I hope we find a house when we come down on 7/17. Wish us luck.

They have basic beginner line dances at the Laurel Manor on Tuesday and on Thursday at Lake Miona and La Hacienda on Friday. The teachers are all volunteers and they are excellent. The classes are free.... well part of your amenity bill so i would suggest you give it a try.

The beginner line dancing lessons I attended were in the year 2002 when I moved to TV. Don't know if there's any changes since then. The class was large (guesstimate 50), held at 8:30 AM (zzzz) at the Savannah Club and most were really really beginners!! They would have advanced dancers mingled amongst the beginners during the class for the newbies to follow their lead. It's a barrell of fun, even at 8:30 in the morning! Since I'm a nightowl and not a morning person, attending these classes took a great effort on my part. Of course, my neighbor would pick me up to carpool, which kept me more disciplined at attending.

I want to assure everybody that if you know nothing about line dancing (as was I; just knew the hully gully) you will enjoy watching the newbies heading in the wrong direction many times, as I had done many times. Truly is a fun time. Not at all embarrassed for wrong steps, you are not alone in the goofs.

What a relief to hear that I won't be the only one going the wrong way. For some reason, I can dance O.K. with a partner and follow a lead in that kind of dancing but anything in a group like aerobics classes, I was always one step behind or on the wrong foot. Since we have spent the entire total time of 17 days that we have had to enjoy TV (I am up north now) either looking for a house or nesting into the one we bought, We only went to the square one time in the evening. I was so impressed with the line dancers. I sat mesmerized. It was hot and they were really doing great and so much in unison, and they rarely sat out a dance. They were so terrific. I wanted to do it too, but thought, nope, GracieGirl you are an idiot. You have the same aspirations when you watch ice skating, it looks so easy. WRONG girlfriend. You are not going to be up there line dancing. Forget about it!!

Barb! Hugs. You have given me new hope. The morning hour is perfect for me and our daughter Helene will love it too. She is much better at dancing than her parents.

The line dancing classes at Colony cottage are very good also which would be very close for you. I am sure you would meet lots of your neighbours their too.

There is also a really good beginning teacher at Lake Miona on Thursday mornings. She also invites her class to join her at LSL in the evening. It is great because it helps you to get up the nerve to join in at the square. At least that is how it worked for me.
