We all need to take heed when someone has bad reviews about a business in the villages. I heard bad things about City Furniture from a neighbor and didn't think about it much because I didn't need to buy anything at the time. Well we were looking for a tv stand and happened into City Furniture at Spanish Springs. We picked out a stand and Kelly was fast to take our money and sign papers stating we had three days to cancel and they would call with delivery times. That was March 22, 2015. My delivery information states: April 2nd, 2015...."we contact all customers to confirm their delivery time. We will call you around 7:45 am on the morning of your delivery to confirm and provide you with an estimated 3 hour delivery window. Our service technicians will then contact you 15-30 minutes prior to arrival". As you can see it is now 9:39 am and I have not received a call yet. I have been trying to call customer service 954-718-3344 since 9:00 am and the recording will not transfer me to anyone. I left it on till just before I sat down to write this and she is still repeating herself. I believe there is so much business here in the villages that some feel they do not need repeat business. I will not buy from City Furniture again and I will tell anyone who will listen my story. If you can not provide the service don't put it in writing on the sales receipt. If they would have told me to stay home all day and wait till they knocked on my door I could have made a decision as to wheather I wanted to do that. As it is,here I sit not knowing when they will even call. Thanks for listening.

In my opinion, there is almost nothing worse than waiting -- regardless of the reason. I hope they make this right soon.

I must weigh in here in support of City Furniture. I ordered a complete bedroom set and later a sleeper sofa. No, everything was not perfect, but really none of them are. They called with a window of time, but sometimes the truck showed up earlier than scheduled. One delivery in fact, they called at 7:30 at night and asked if they could come now instead of the next day, I said yes and my next day was free to do what I wanted to do. Another time they said 7:30 to 9:30 pm for delivery and showed up about 5:30. Lucky for me, I was home. Don't know what would have happened if I didn't get home until 7:30 but I was so no problem. I can't say enough about how nice, friendly and helpful the delivery guys were, they were great. I tried to order a queen sleeper sofa from roomstogo and they wouldn't even take it off the truck, just said, NO, it won't fit and left. I then went to City and even though the guys weren't sure if it would fit, they at least tried, even took the door off first. guess what, it fit fine with a little maneuvering. My point is you can have good and bad experiences with any of them.

Sorry to hear of the apparent problem you are having, OP. Please tell us the outcome since the reputation of a company here is involved.
We've had three excellent transactions, including deliveries on the date announced.

City Furniture is out of Southeast Florida - known for pressure tactics when selling and poor customer service after the sale.
Used them down there twice, not again anywhere.

ok here is an update. at 1:00 Carlos answered the store phone 352-750-8044 he told me he would check the computer. He called me right back and said it was scheduled between 12:30 and 2:30pm. I told him I already posted a letter to "talk of the Villages." he told me that was not nice. I ask him to check the customer service number 954-718-3344 because I had been trying to call them since 9:23 am this morning, he said he would. I hung up and tried the customer service number again. Low and behold it answered and I pushed #1 and waited on hold from 1:01pm to 1:22pm a man answered and told me he would call the truck. Came back and said I was scheduled for 3:30 to 5:30pm. I COULD HAVE WENT TO WORK!!!!!! I took the whole day off thinking they would do what they said they would do and simply CALL ME AT 7:45 am and give me a 3 hour window!!!!!

Ok update. it's 2:11pm the driver just called 954-226-9091. Said he'd be here in a hour. Right that number down if you want to call the driver direct. I will not shop there again, so I won't be needing it.

It's 3:20pm and there are 2 trucks outside. Two....for a tv stand. Now.... they have to put it together! OMG. Why doesn't someone put it together in the warehouse the night before, load the truck according to addresses, then send those 2 trucks with 2 men on each one and head out in different directions. They would get twice as much done. I feel bad for the drivers because they are only doing what they are told by the guys or gals sitting in the cool offices not listening to the customers complain.

I have seen their trucks many times throughout the Villages. I have never seen just one truck. There is always 2 trucks together. Never one by itself. I assume everyone isn't getting 2 truck loads of furniture.
Can't even imagine that's cost effective.

I agree with your statement that there is so much business in the Villages that some don't need to make an effort. We had a lack luster salesperson at a recommended flooring store. There was only one tile that she could/would show us...no need to discuss further. I told my husband forget it. It's rare to find service people that treat each sale like it truly does matter.
We browsed around City Furniture...will think twice now. Sorry for your aggravation. Ugh!:cus:

In the early 90's I was a dispatcher for a messenger company in Baltimore. One of our customers was IKEA at White Marsh Mall. We made all their deliveries. It was a very simple operation. Everyday at 5pm IKEA would fax over the next day deliveries. As a dispatcher we would map out the driver's route, it could be a couple of hundred miles since southern Pennsylvania, central Maryland and northern Virginia were involved. After making out his route, we would allot 4 hour windows for each delivery and then call the customer at their home number about 7pm with the next day delivery time.
Each customer knew the night before when they could expect their delivery and the driver would know how long a day he had and if he needed more helpers. We required the driver to call us from each stop and if they were late or early we would call the customers that hadn't been delivered. We did this without 2-way radios or cellphones. It worked well for many years. IKEA contracted the delivery business with my messenger company and my company used drivers and helpers who were independent contractors and we rented our trucks from U-Haul. So actually, us dispatchers were the only company salaried employers, everyone else was contracted, but it worked.

I have noticed that the city furniture trucks come in pairs (like love bugs!!), and to the previous posters, you are correct this cannot be cost effective.
As for the having to put the TV stand together, we ordered an entire bedroom set (from another company), and it was assembled on site, as the individual pieces were are in protective boxes or wrapping. This keeps the furniture from being damaged during shipment, so I think this is reasonable.
I hope after all of this the TV stand was delivered complete and undamaged.

We have had 4 different deliveries in the past few months from City Furniture and everyone of them was totally screwed up as you mentioned above. Welcome to The Villages! Outfitting a whole house I've used several other furniture stores too between Leesburg and Ocala.....they are all alike....could care less....Next!

Used them for several large and smaller pieces in the past two months. One upholstered piece arrived and was brought into our home and placed in a room, even though it had a large discolored area in the upholstery.
I had been told previously, if I was going to deal with city furniture, that if anything was not right to refuse the item and send it back or else they would never make it right .
After speaking to customer service and going back-and-forth we got another delivery date to get a new one. This chair also arrived with another discolorization in the same general area but it looked different. It looked like someone had tried to clean the stain and now it was just a different kind of stain. And this is not something subtle, this was bad.
Had to set up another delivery for a replacement. So third time was the charm and the chair was fine. BUT.. we had a dining room chair – one of six – that arrived with the back which was completely cracked and broken . Again , the delivery people brought it into the home and were having me sign the paper when I went over to look at it and it was completely broken . I asked him when did he take off the wrapping and he said in the truck before they got it out. I asked him did you not even look at the chair if you picked it up you would've seen this is completely cracked in half and he just shrugged .
More calls to customer service and we got a new delivery date for another chair, which was fine .
Everything turned out okay in the end. I have been told that in dealing with City Furniture , if anything goes wrong after they leave your home with the delivery or in the days following, you will have little recourse.
I also think that it is ridiculous that they charge a separate delivery charge for each piece of your furniture. We purchased furniture from five different furniture stores in the area and they're the only ones that charged by the piece .
I would purchase from them again , only if they had exactly what I wanted and I couldn't find it elsewhere.

Sorry to disagree with you Cassie, but Rooms to Go also charges delivery for each piece, although the cost goes down slightly with each piece. Also, Rooms was also bad at delivering a TV console that had the back damaged (almost falling off), the guys still brought it in. When I pointed it out, they said they would send someone over to fix it? I said no, I want a new console. Well, they left the console and promised to send me a new one. Over a week later, I had to call the store to find out where my console was. Nobody new about it. Said they would send me out a new one in TWO more weeks. They are all the same.

We declined to purchase in home service for our sofa in January. So, City Furniture now must assess a $50 checkout fee to verify the issues me are having with a three month old sofa. They have the pictures which were sent to them by email. I can’t believe a sofa could have so many problems so quickly. I guess were not in Ohio anymore.

Honestly, I would never buy anything from City Furniture based upon their history in South Fl.
Also-if you know anything about quality furniture-City Furniture is not the place to shop- its totally low end junk. Go to Babetts its the best locally. We bought all our furniture from Furniture Land South.

Well, personally I didn't buy from Rooms to Go (didnt like furniture choices in the showroom), so wouldn't know about their delivery fee. I can tell you, like I said previously, that City Furniture is the only one that charged by the piece. Kanes in Ocala did not. Family Furniture in Leesburg did not.

Was in City Furn. Fri. 4/2 looking for a living room reclining love seat and sofa & 4 wooden dinette chairs to match my table. I saw what I wanted & more importantly, liked & spoke to one of the salesmen named Carlos. I was hoping to take the wood chairs home with me but Carlos said he only had 2 in stock but if I came back tomorrow they might have the other 2 in stock. Low & behold when I went back the next day they were having a 10% sale. Carlos said they still didn't have the chairs in but everything could be delivered one Tuesday.
Everything came on time & under budget by 10%. The delivery men were careful and experienced, set everything up where I wanted it & hauled away the garbage.
Carlos called me today to check if I was happy with everything.
I can.t comment on there service if you get a defective item but I am a happy camper based on my experience with City Furniture's sales people, product & delivery.

I purchased an outdoor sofa from City Furniture in Lady Lake in March the sales person verified it was mildew resistant, we purchased the extended warranty/in home service as a precaution. The item arrived a few days later. We were having work done on our lanai and at the advice of the delivery men, we kept the sofa in the garage covered by a sheet.
On or about June 1, we placed the couch on the lanai (under roof). In approximately 6 weeks it had turned a grayish/black color due to a dusting of mildew.
I contacted the Lady Lake store and the customer service dept. which is located in Tamarac Fl. I was put through a gamut of representative to ‘help’ me. I was told to look up the definition of mildew resistant vs. mildew proof in the dictionary. I was told it is like a waterproof vs. water resistant watch, in so much as, you cannot swim with a water resistant watch. (I am not sure how that relates to a sofa, I can assure you I did not swim with the sofa). I was also told that the store personnel, including the General Manager were ‘misinformed’ and should not have told me the sofa was mildew resistant.
I “Googled” the head of customer service and emailed her. She found a way to squirm out of helping me too. It seems they employ so many people to tell you “NO!” in customer service, it would be more cost effective to simply stand by their products.
This leaves me with a gray, mildew sofa cushions that never should have been outdoors, even under cover.
Beware of purchasing anything from City Furniture and beware of their false claims. They do not stand behind their claims and warranties.

We did have issues with our couch when it was delivered in January and later as other problems occurred. We spent five months talking to many different City Furniture representatives, sending pictures and then paying a $50 fee to have a service person inspect the sofa. The good manager in Spanish Springs finally said enough is enough and replaced our couch with a new one. We should have gone to him first! It was not easy but we are now satisfied.

This is why many of us miss Southern Lifestyles. With all the negative reviews of City Furniture I wonder what the Morse family thinks about letting them in the Villages. So many people can't be wrong and for that I will not even walk into City Furniture. I hear Babette's has great furniture.

As for myself, I would never use them just because on several occasions I was driving on Bueana Vista at 38 miles an hour, and the two trucks blow past me like I'm sitting still and whipping around cars.

I must say, maybe it is the salesperson you deal with that makes the difference. In June we went to the LSL store and worked with Leslie. She was wonderful. Ordered a sofa, loveseat, wall unit and carpet on Thursday, delivered 1st thing Saturday morning. There was a chance the sofa might be back ordered, but it did come with the delivery. Leslie pushed the delivery because she knew we were heading back north the following week. Everything was great, delivery people was efficient and courteous. As to trucks always coming in pairs, several friends told me they always saw 2 together. We only had one! Sorry some of you have had bad experiences, but I am very satisfied.
Also there was a 10% sale that was to start on Saturday, but the manager gave it to us on Thursday.

Bought two recliners from City Furniture earlier this year.
I was very pleased with how they handled the delivery, they informed me as the pieces were enroute. What really surprised me is that the delivery men had me call their home office to tell them if I was pleased with everything!
Sorry it didn't work out the same for the OP!

I can only surmise that the Morse's shut down Southern Lifestyles because the building boom in TV really is coming to an end. Once you stop building 200-300 new homes a month, the demand for furniture dries up quickly. They got out at the right time. They are just happy to be renting out the former space to anyone, and I believe City Furniture has reduced it's showroom space in SL by half. My guess is that by the end of 2016 they will be gone as well.
As for City Furniture as a company? We bought everything from CF all at once, "sight unseen" over the internet. Selection was fair at best, quality was about average, value was about average, our sale rep was very good (ex. Southern Lifestyles employee), delivery, communication and setup were about the worst I have ever experienced. But hey, it's all in place now and I won't need anything new for awhile.

The reason the delivery guys had you call is because there have been so many delivery problems, that the warehouse in Miami is putting a lot of pressure on the delivery guys to buckle down and do things the right way, and one way to do that is by getting instant feedback from the customer.
