This is exciting with remodel of Katie balls, new Morse ctr etc... Does anyone know about parking yet? I imagine we'll need quite a bit with the square, movies, shops, restaurants, Katie balls and our new theater

What is there to know besides the fact that there is no room to provide any more parking close to the square; and that no one has yet seen fit to organize a shuttle service from rec centers to squares?

There are 118 posts on the thread called "the Sharon" and a lot of them are about parking.

I enjoy the car cruise in each month at SS. there are thousands of people there and I always find a parking place. I think you are creating a problem that doesn't exist.

I would like to see ALL parking on the streets around the commercial area of all three squares to be "golf cart only", with the exception of a few handicapped spots. You can fit 5 golf carts in the space of one car. All cars would be parked behind the stores in the parking lots. Only 2 golf carts can be parked in a regular parking spot behind the stores. I also think this would look nicer too. Just an idea, but I am sure it's not original.

I would suggest that when folks refer to no parking they mean close in....which is what we all want right?
I would guess there is sufficient parking when one looks 4-6 blocks out.
Have you been to the fair (anywhere)?
One of the theme parks (excluding the trolley that picks you up)?
Any sports stadium?
The theatre in a bigger city?
Almost all involve a substantial walk.

Which is exactly why the majority of participants at those events are not over the age of 60. There are only so many handicapped parking spots.

Multi-level subterranean parking below Spanish Springs I hear. Oh wait, this is Florida. It will be above Spanish Springs.

I made this suggestion on TV survey. Cars just take up too much room.

Just up the street form the Bowling alley they are building in the field on the left across from the Town Houses. Maybe parking garage going up? Haha April Fools. Probably more Town Houses in the half million plus dollar range?

The squares are not just for TV residents. Ergo, cars can park anywhere they want. They are public streets.

love the idea of making all parking on Spanish Springs for golf carts with an appropriate number of car handicap spots. Brilliant! Hope it happens!!!

So what's wrong with walking a couple of blocks. After all we are suppose to be "America's Healthiest Hometown". And if we aren't yet, walking a few blocks every so often will help.

Not sure the golf cart idea is good. Just cannot see myself in a dress and heels riding in golf cart. Also like many others prefer the car when its pouring out, lightening, too cold, brutally hot etc.. Weather not always cooperative so option for car or cart I believe would be better suited

I foresee another great point of bitter contention if the possible "parking problem" really does come to pass. Orange cones appearing days before an event "roping off" select parking areas for those thinking they are entitled to such things. Games of bumper bluff and bumper tag in the parking lots will make the show in the parking lots better than in the theater; even more fun than watching the action in the roundabouts, I can hardly wait.:jester:

there's plenty of parking if you are willing to also use your feet, don't confuse laziness for a lack of parking. The Barnes & nobles lot often has many spots at Sumter but the whiners don't want to walk at all.

Not a solution at all. There are not enough spaces no matter how many there are. Before long we would have people saving handicap spaces somehow.
First come first served.
The later you are the further you walk.

And what about the handicap people that have to bring their car ?

They should put those spots close to the entrance near the elevator.

Amen, Bonny! And what about the folks who have no golf cart and can't afford to buy one - they should rent one for the event? Golf carters here seem to think they are the entitled!

I'm really warming to the idea of having golf cart only parking just on the square at SS. But it needs to come with some of the other ideas offered here --handicapped parking at the elevator entrance, shuttles to and from the outlying parking areas and nearby rec centers, and valet parking. If one can pay $150 for a ticket, $10 or so to get valet parking at the door seems quite reasonable to me!

OK, we have not even experienced this possible problem yet. Why not wait and see how it works out? I'm certain the developer is aware there may be a problem and is working toward a solution. Let's give it a chance before we start screaming foul. Oh, and btw, the county must always approve a structure based on number of parking spaces available so The Sharon must be in compliance with county standards.

so many of you are quick to say "don't be lazy and walk 4 or 5 blocks". This is well and good if you are physically able. There is a shortage of handicapped spots at the town centers. The suggestion of cart only & handicapped parking only around the squares is a good one.

Regardless of changing parking needs with the addition of The Sharon etc.:
For example, TVRH hospital runs long golf cart shuttles around in the parking lots and to/from the hospital. I think cart shuttles or trolley bus shuttles running from the outlying parking areas of the square are needed and would be welcomed.
That would encourage peole to park farther out, knowing they have a ride to/from the center to the town square.

Who's going to pay for shuttles and drivers? Is this a pay and ride thing? I wouldn't want my amenities fees to pay for it. Would you have to show your Village ID?

The first parking test will probably be April 18th. You all living here know what happens the third Saturday of the month in SS town square. The show at The Sharon that evening is "THE KING AND I". How appropriate.

Third Saturday of the month is cruise in night. The streets are closed around the square and the classic cars occupy all of the parking spaces. The club of the month gets to park in front of the Church On The Square (The Sharon now). It is one of the busiest nights of the month in the square. It should be the first test to see how parking will be handled. I hope well. Nothing more than that was intended by my post. However I have not had this much fun with my pants on in a long time.

There's a simple solution to all of this: Build a parking garage above the town square. Everything at ground level would stay exactly as it is now with streets and free nightly entertainment. The first level of parking would be high enough so as not to obscure the view of all the restaurants and shops. This would cover an area that includes the streets.
It just has to be engineered with steel beams that are strong enough to hold all the weight. :jester: It would be an engineering marvel. :D

Actually, I don't see that much of a parking problem. Might have to park in Belk's parking lot, (yes, a little walk) but still will be plenty of parking, don't you think?

I am not going to worry about a parking space. We try to park at the farthest point so we get in more steps. We try to do 8 miles a day. So all of those who are fearful of not getting a spot you can have ours

Human nature says, "I will park at the closest location, I can".
For those that are able bodied like myself, I don't find that walking a few more steps, to be a bad thing.
Parking at any square is a problem when popular acts are performing and that will never change. I agree that if there is a performance at The Sharon during third Saturday of the classic car shows, it would pose a challenge.
Somehow, I think the people booking these type of events, will take that into account.

I really doubt Katie B's will add anything to parking from the looks of it. The shops and movies will remain the same as will the restaurants and the square. The only thing would be he Morse Ctr. which probably will be a parking problem during events.

Don't know if this has anything to do with The Sharon and/or parking at Spanish Springs but thought it was interesting. There was an ad in this morning's paper "Hiring Event" ---- Bags Hospitality and Parking Services----looking for Valet Runners, Valet Dispatchers and Valet Lead. "Bags Hospitality and Parking Services is coming to the Villages."
