Does anyone know of a good Mexican resturant in the Villages or outside nearby that has GORDITAS These are thick pancake like tortillas sliced in half filled with steak or your choice of meat and cheese. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you:pepper2:

I would suggest using the Gourmet Club site and search their database for Mexican restaurants. The reviews will specify if Gorditas were sampled. Most reviews have links for each restaurant and their menus. Good Luck!

I would try El Ranchito on LaGrande Blvd.---they have been there a long time. It's our favorite but frankly never had the meal you are looking for.

If you feel like driving a little bit, go to El Potro in Orlando.
It's worth the trip if you are really looking for quality Mexican food.
They also have a wonderful lunch buffet (AYCE) daily.

Apopka location is closer. It's on 441.

Gorditas are an invention of Taco Bell. They have them occasionally. If you want authentic Mexican food, there is a Mexican grocery store on the right going towards Leesburg, they serve Mexican food in the little eating place in the rear. tongue tacos, and other more exotic fare, different but delicious..

Taco Hell bastardized it ... but they DO NOT invent the Gordita!!

Sorry OP ... I do not know af a restaurant within 300 miles that serves an authentic Gordita. BUT, I can tell you that I have tried EVERY Mexican restaurant within TV proper and they are all OK to below average IMO.

Best Mexican in the area:

- Coyote Rojo in Bushnell (just off I-75 on CR48 (exit 314) ) simple straight up Tex Mex but will done and well seasoned (and I do not mean hot) ... it is the "well seasoned" part that is the failure of all of the TV places ... again IMO.

- Latinos y Mas in Ocala (Pine St which is 441/27, near downtown) a bit of a Latin / Mexican fusion ... but VERY well done. Hands down the best example within 100 miles.

I second the vote for El Potro in Orlando. If you are in Dunedin, even better is Casa Tina.

El Potro was started by several brothers in Jacksonville Fla in the mid 80's and overall they do a fine job with Tex Mex .... but if you are in the Jax area, they are not as good as La Napolara. I understand that their is a La Nap in G-ville, but I have never tried it.

Dunedin has many great restaurants and Casa Tina is high on the list!
