I just saw a posting on the web 9 things you didn't know Coke would do. I was really surprised by some. Killing ants with Coke and removing driveway stains were the ones that interested me. Has anyone ever done this does it work? Anybody got other uses for coke not listed?

Vinegar will kill ants. Wine will probably kill ants too. But I'm not wasting my wine to find out. :wine:

Back in my school days one of my teachers accepted a donated baby tooth from a pupil and put it in a glass of Coca Cola. It totally dissolved overnight. Coke is extremely acidic and loaded with sugar. Diet Coke may be even more acidic than regular coke.

Reminds me of a story about 25 years ago when I had a shopping cart with 10 gallons of distilled water in it. The lady in front of me inquired what I was doing with all that water. I told her I was going to drink it. She grimaced and said that was what they put in irons and car batteries and how could I stand to drink it.:loco:

Lowering your PH of the body can help cancers grow. Thats why any soda product is bad for you. A little off the beam but if you have a pool keep the PH at 7.4 to 7.6 and the equipment will last longer.

A friend of mine soaks the heads of his golf irons in Coca Cola overnight and says it removes all rust and dirt. It has to be washed off good in the morning.

I have used it on oil spills on the garage floor and it removes the oil. Wonder what it is doing to your stomach?

Did you really see that demonstration? back in your school days? and the baby tooth totally dissolved overnight?
Regular coke has 3.2 g of sugar per ounce. Minute Maid Heart wise orange juice has 3.0 g per ounce.
And pH (lower numbers are more acidic)
Normal Stomach gastric acid 2.0
Vinegar 2.2
Gatorade clear 2.4
Cranberry Juice 2.5
Coke (regular) 2.53
Orange Juice Minute Maid 2.8
Nestea Lemon Iced Tea 2.9
Diet Coke 3.4
Wine average 3.5

Not to suggest soda is a nutritional product, but really. It is not extremely acidic or you couldn't drink it. And like any mild acid it can be a handy product around the house. Ask Heloise about vinegar and for six dollars she will send you a pamphlet of fantabulous hints.

And although I didn't get an answer about the tooth test.. it is a myth. Coke absolutely will not dissolve a baby tooth overnight. Either the poster repeated a story he had heard as a direct observation, or the teacher faked the study (I hope not) to try to dissuade kids from drinking soda. Besides what kid is going to give up his tooth to a teacher when it MUST be given to the tooth fairy for $$$.

When I was an RDH, we used to soak the dental instruments in straight Coke to remove the rust. I believe it is the phosphoric acid in Coke and Pepsi that does the trick. Phosphoric acid also destroys your bones.

My apologies! It appears my teacher may have deceived the class about coke dissolving a tooth based on Snopes and a few other sites I checked. She must have had an agenda! (Perhaps the tooth fairy removed the tooth from the glass of coke in the middle of the night.)

Yes, I believe you are correct. Many years ago a dental hygienist told me it's the phosphoric acid that does the damage, regardless of whether it's a diet soda or not. I would think sugary soda is even worse because bacteria love it.
