Is there a stand someplace where I can buy 10 or more grapefruit from a roadside stand that is substantially less expensive than the super markets? Aldi's has the best prices but it's a hassle going there.

If you are at the south end of The Villages, take Route 44 west almost to where it meets I75. The stand will be on your left.

I live by Brownwood and I love Sam's but that's further than Aldis. I'll try out the roadside stand as suggested by someone else.

I buy all my grapefruit from Jennings. They are located on the corner of 466 and 301. I found their prices to be good. They have $6.00 and $10.00 bags.

How many are in each bag?

Might be worth your time to go to the fruit stand yourself and find out.

I think what he means is go to the stand and see how many you can fit into each bag.....they are different sizes so quantity will depend on the size you pick.

Yes. Even a phone call to the fruit market might help.

That's where we go, too. We have always had good fruit from there.
I get however many I want. I choose each grapefruit. I always have chosen heavy grapefruit because that is usually a sign of more juice.

Thank-you all for the grapefruit advice. And one questions leads to another.
I went to Jennings today and bought the $6 bag. When I got home there were some [many] grapefruits that look brownish, not perfectly yellow like in the supermarket.
I cut the two worst looking ones and they were delicious. So here's my next question:
Are local grapefruits supposed to look perfectly yellow or not? Maybe they are grown to be made into juice and the juice people know better.

I looked on the internet for pictures of grapefruit with brown spots. Maybe mine have mold and maybe they don't but I threw them out just to be on the safe side.
So I guess I'm still looking for grapefruit in quantity.

The fruit in grocery stores and lots of fruit stands has been washed and polished. I suspect a little food coloring has been added. Lots of the fruit looks almost plastic. The not perfectly shaped is likely sent to the juice machines. I have picked oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes and none are that beautiful. I don't know about the brown spots. I toss out more than I should because I don't want to meet Mr. Stomach Pump.
