I will soon be in a power wheelchair and we need a bigger home.....specifically able to modify the shower (if not already modified) for a shower wheelchair. Also room in the house to navigate the chair through doors and around furniture....
Anyone know of a modified home or one that can be modified?
Thanks

Before we picked our model, we walked through a number of houses with showers that would easily accommodate a wheelchair. In fact the house we bought could probably fit in some of these master baths. I would think a call to the sales office or a review of the floor plans on line would find many options.

We built a Holly, and it has very wide doorways and a beautiful roll-in shower. If a person cannot walk at all, the toilets would not work to transfer oneself from a wheelchair to the toilet, but the kitchen is a dream for a person in a scooter or electric wheelchair. The doors are all 36 inches wide and there is extra space around the kitchen counter and the master bedroom has a double wide doorway (with two doors).
We bought threshold bumpers to make it easier to get over the sliders to the lanai and at the garage door entry.
I think most homes can be adapted. It costs quite a bit, and you need to research to see what you need and what is available. But a bathtub can easily be made into a no-step shower, and most toilet areas and sinks can be made adaptable.

To the best of my knowledge the holly and one other model are the only ones that are set up for wheel chairs ( 36" doors) and wide areas inside the home. I would guess that any model could be modified to your needs.
