View Full Version : Why is TOTV such a memory hog?

TOTV has brought my computer speed to a snail's pace. Way too many advertisements. Takes longer and longer to load a page on TOTV. Memory use is over 1 gig now. Ridiculous.

Items for sale and threads appear to stay forever --except the ones admin deletes because one if us crosses the line.

I think you mean your browser is using a gigabyte of memory. Which browser are you using? Try changing browsers. I use Firefox and with a dozen pages open, include TOTV, I am using less than 300K bytes. I don't see any issues with TOTV.

I use Google Chrome and I am on several forums like this. This is by far the slowest. Some times are better then others, but none of my other forums are like this one.

I'm a technical guy so I don't understand the differences between browsers etc, but I d o know that this site is slower than any of the others I belong to.

The slowness may be a reflection of your internet speed. This website does bring down a lot of stuff.

I agree that changing browsers may help. Unlike others I was using Firefox and it was taking forever to load. I switched to Chrome and have had no issues since then.

I also use Chrome and have installed ad blocker for Chrome. I have no issues.

If it is the pop up ads, then Ad Block Plus will take care of the problem...it is free.

I use firefox. Only TOTV open. Over 1 gig memory after about 20 minutes.

Internet speed shouldn't play into memory use...

Like Village Chicken, I added Ad Block plus. Such a relief!! No more pop up ads ever!

Those pop ups will kill ya'!

I use Google Chrome. TOTV loads instantly. Never a problem. I have Comcast.

ADblock Plus....you had me at "free". Works! Lightning fast. Thanks for the tip.

Mine is more of a cpu problem. I pretty much quit using IE for TOTV because it brings my PC to a halt. And lately, Firefox has not been much better. We need less interactive or animated ads.

I also thought maybe my cpu was overwhelmed. I have a laptop running windows 7 and a desktop still using XP. But, when I installed Adblock plus, as recommended, TOTV works very fast.

I installed Adblock Plus on IE11 and FireFox. Let's see what happens.

I installed Adblock Plus on all three browsers (IE, FireFox, Chrome) and it seems to have fixed my TOTV cpu problem.

Thanks,
