would like to organize a small group to carpool to tour the beautiful Stetson Mansion in DeLand within the month of may or june....there is a Grand Tour which lasts 105 minutes for $30 or a Standard tour of 75 minutes for $20. i prefer doing the Grand tour since we may as well do the whole thing to make the ride worth while :) can i get a show of interest? they accept cash only at the door and reservations are made on the computer. check out the website and let me know what you think....

I did this during Christmas and it was awesome. Home was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It is owned by 2 gay guys and they have restored it themselves. I highly recommend going to this. I would also go to the Deland House and have a tour first, then go to the mansion. The Deland House is also worth seeing. See you guys when I get back. db

Not that it makes a difference.

since gay guys seem to have great talents at decorating, that is a plus!

Your are correct - being owned by 2 gay guys makes no difference. I was merely giving info. I don't care who ones the mansion, they do an awesome job of decorating. If I offended, that was not my intention.

i was hoping to book in june but there are no openings on the website...we can go for the grand tour on May 28 at one thirty but i am not reserving unless i have definite commitments as if someone is a no-show i will have to pay for them at the door....how does that date work?

well, tomorrow is the big day..have nine people going in two cars, departing at 9:45 from Colony parking lot near the pool and bocce courts. look for my little bright red yarus! the tour is at one thirty so we will have "brunch" when we arrive in Deland and afterwards browse around the town, antique shops, etc...hoping it will be a fun day for all....

Gay is a descriptor to me, nothing more and nothing less. We all ARE who we all are. Never occurred to me it was out of place.

Now...if you all need more folks, daughter one is coming to visit June 17th for a few days and we were thinking of taking her to see it.

Saw that.

I expect rave reviews. Have heard lovely things from all who have been there. I think Gretchen will enjoy it.

yes, Gracie, here is my rave review...nine of us went and enjoyed the Grand tour, which costs $30 plus tax as opposed to the regular $20 tour...the grand tour was begun in jan now that the third floor is open to the public...this is actually the living quarters of the owners and amazing to see how they have fitted closets and bathrooms into an old home. they still offer the $20 tour on other days. in July there will be a special Quilt exhibition. the tour took about an hour and a half, and told a lot about John B. Stetson who sounds like a very admirable gentleman. years ago i had a boss by that same name on long island and he was wonderful...wonder if he is related :) he always referred to his wife of many years as "my bride", which i thought was so sweet. anyway, we had lunch beforehand at Mac's aka Main Street Grill downstairs and they treated birthday girl Helen to a nice dessert. Food was very good...after the tour and looking around the grounds, we drove around the Stetson University and then returned to the upstairs Mac's for dessert and cool drinks etc before the ride home...too tired to do much shopping but would like to go back to Deland another time in cooler weather just to attend the Art Museum and browse the many cute shops...hope everyone had a good time...the trip is roughly an hour and twenty minutes or so, and thank you very much to the drivers!

Diane, Thank you for taking the time to organize such a wonderful day exploring the Statson Mansion and Deland. It was quite the pleasure meeting and traveling with everyone and wonderful at Mac's on Main St. When they brought the cake and ice cream for Helen. I do believe she enjoyed it tremendously!! So thoughtful of you!! Thank you for excluding me I very much enjoyed the day!!
