I am convinced that some people that drive golf carts couldnt give a (you fill in the word) about anything and any one. Turning left at an intersection a guy passes me from the golf cart lane out on to the street. I was in a cart had turn signal and hand signal. I think it is time to some how certify cart speed also. It's just getting to nuts anymore. Wonder if they drive their cars this way.Probably do

Stop signs don't mean a thing, especially @ the intersection of Bailey Trail & Buena Vista, they continually ride thru all the stop signs, this also applies to bicyclists too--someone will get whacked= word to the Sumter County police---you can run out of citations if an officer or two are stationed there.

Unfortunately, I can top that one ......... yesterday, I was stopped at an intersection with two golf carts and one large SUV waiting to make a left hand turn into my road, when a golf cart came up from behind and tried to overtake the two golf carts and the SUV! He obviously had not seen that the traffic was waiting for an oncoming car to get through.
We might have to start doing an IQ test to move here!:22yikes:

Not all New Yorkers behave badly!
There is plenty of entitled behavior by people from many states.

Tell me exactly where you were.
And the guy in a golf cart behind you comes from the golf cart lane behind you and comes into the street and passed you on your left.
Are you in the street, making a left turn?
or are you still in the golf cart lane?
You said he came from the golf cart lane out on to the street
If you are in the street making your left hand turn, where you should be, then he would have had to cross the middle of the street into the opposite lane in order to pass you.

My wife and I were heading north on Buena Vista trail just past Palmer. We were following two carts, in front of them were two bicyclists. We were approaching a median when a cart passed us and the cart in front of us, he didn't have time to get around the bikes so he heads down the other side of the median the wrong way.A cart was coming and had to drive off onto the grass.WOW

I got the same thing from the OP. Some people believe they need to turn left from the golf cart lane. This is very dangerous, left turns are performed after moving into the traffic lane closest to the oncoming traffic. I hope the OP reads this. If I misinterpeted I appoligize.

The bigger issue for me is drivers in cars who appear to have a superior attitude when coming in contact with golf carts or bicycles . They seem tobelieve the right of way is always theirs

My wife came out of a tunnel last week, I believe onto Turtle Mound Golf Course, and met a lady, IN HER CAR, coming toward here on the cart path. My wife swerved to the right and avoided the collision. I hate to think of what might have been.

An jerk behind the wheel is just that. It really doesn't matter if it is the wheel of a golf cart, automobile, truck, etc.

Yesterday morning while waiting to turn onto St. Charles, I was stopped at Tamarind Grove Blvd. St. Charles is a very busy street with cart lanes on each side of the roadway. In most places if a car is turning in front of you on the highway and there is room on the shoulder you slide over to the right and go around the turning car.
Yesterday this pickup truck tried the same thing, except the shoulder on St. Charles is a cart lane. A golf cart going about 20mph was suddenly faced with a pickup truck moving at a slower speed 10' directly in front of them. The golf cart driver slammed on the brakes and skidded into the curb, probably messing up their tires and wheels but otherwise the cart wasn't damaged. The truck and the it's driver continued on it's way without probably even knowing what it did.
It seems that when busy streets have cart lanes on the side, such as Morse north of CR466, it's an easy invitation for cars and carts to get together. Too often the driver in his haste will move over into the cart lane to go around a turning vehicle and totally forget about the cart approaching from the rear and to their right.

We lived on and cruised on a motor yacht for 6 years. Rules of the road says a sailing vessel has right of way while under sail, unless they are in a depth restricted channel. They had right of way, but if I couldn't alter course they could have been "dead right".
CFrance
05-02-2015, 12:50 PM
Sail boats definitely do not have right of way over freighters. It has to do with degree of maneuverability.
Chatbrat
05-02-2015, 01:09 PM
They most likely would be under the freighters radar. You can't believe how fast a big ship can overtake a 12kt trawler.
CFrance

Have dipped many a freighter in our decades of sailing. They are too big to maneuver quickly.

Why does it have to be a Yankee fan or New Yorker that is at fault. I take offense to your statement Gracie. In other words if you are from NY you don't know how to drive? I for one, have never had an accident, drive cautiously and have never had a ticket. Maybe you need to visit NY to see that we are not all rude, arrogant and a bunch of idiots. And I take more offense that you are attacking my NY Yankees. I am a die hard Yankee fan and I learned that from my Mother. So I will be wearing a big NY Yankee decal on my cart when I finally come down full time and I hope to see you so I can wave hello.

Why so defensive? She was just mearly identifying the cart. She could have said it was a blue EZ-Go. Are all the blue EZ-Go drivers going to be up in arms? Chill.... Have a cold one! :beer3:

She would never take a swipe at anyone....She was describing the cart as one with a NY Yankee tag... This was NOT personal just identifying cart.

Her post can be taken two ways. At first read it seems she gave a sucker punch to New Yorkers, read it again and it may describe a specific cart. But the emoticon ending shows a definite tongue in cheek swipe at Yankee fans and New Yorkers.

I have visited NY a few times and I can concur; "they are not all rude, arrogant and a bunch of idiots"...just most of them are. I am amazed at the subway system (many levels going different directions, even under the river, truly a marvel!) but nobody thought to incorporate alleys in the building plan and trash sits out front on the sidewalk curb (yuck!).
A large percentage of Red Sox fans believe Yankee fans are oversensitive crybabies...it might have to do with the 2004 AL championship series???
Ok before you get all worked up: I am just poking a little fun at you and truly believe Gracie wishes nothing but the best for you and yours.
To the OP; Continue to drive defensively (cart and car) and you will be less likely to be hurt. You are in an area where most drivers (retirement community) have lost a bit of sense and ability over the years. They can't avoid that (nor can we).
